Vehicle Detail
Up for sale is my 1989 Saab 900 Turbo Convertible with 157,333 miles. I am not a dealer, just a guy with a car to sell. Obviously, there is no warranty or guarantee of any kind on this 23 year old used car, although I will try to be clear and complete in the description. I am selling through a family member's Ebay account, the car is in Drexel Hill PA, just outside of Philadelphia. You can call me, Paul, at 215-370-9690 with any questions etc. The car is for sale locally and I reserve the right to end the auction early if I have a buyer. I can not ship or deliver the car, but will cooperate with your shipper, ie, be here when he comes to get it. Local buyer preferred, and the car will not leave here until paid for in full. So if you are paying by check, it will need to clear before pickup. Clear PA title in my name and in my possesion. PA inspected through September 2012. I don't need a deposit, but please have funds in place and be prepared to pay and close transaction promptly. Also, I have the original window sticker from Scott Saab in Wynnewood, PA. Sticker price in 1989 was $32,979. Car is Cirrus White, with tan leather interior and black top. THE GOOD: Car runs and drives very nice. Turbo works well, and car is quick, accelerates strong and has great passing power. At 70 MPH on the highway, engine turns a little over 3000rpm. Car steers and brakes well, comfortable yet firm ride with excellent handling. Power top works well, as intended; it has a small 1" tear but no leaks. The top is a replacement, -- the top was replaced in 2000 at a cost of $848.00 Also, there is a 50 page stack of maintenence and repair records going back to 1996. I had the A/C re-done in 2008, compressor, condensor and a high pressure hose, at a cost of $1200, and then converted to R134 and re-charged in 2010 so that the Air Conditioning works. I have the parade boot, looks brand new, probably never on car. Cruise control, seat heaters, accessories and lights, power antenna, instruments, gauges all work. According to the records, transmission was replaced by dealer in 1996 under warranty (the car had just been purchased; the car was sold by and the transmission work was done by Werner Motors in Lansdale PA), and significant engine work, including timing chain, cylinder head, head gasket, water pump, all hoses and radiator work was done in 2000 at 120k miles at a cost of $2100(!). Of course, tons of other stuff has been done over the years, the car was repaired and maintained as needed. Other more recent work includes a new battery, new inner driver, new CV boots, new thermostat, new header pipe, parking brake was stuck and was repaired, coolant flush and refill, as well as all new belts in 2010, and new power antenna. Tires and brakes are fine right now. I am not mechanically inclined, so whatever I was told in terms of repairs and maintenence, I got the work done and have the records to show for it. Car is equipped with gauge package of a temperature, amperage and oil pressure gauge set located in the console. THE NOT SO GOOD: 2 spots of rust; 1 in front of drivers side front wheel, and the other is on the inside of the bottom of the driver side door. I attempted to capture the rust in the photos. Drivers seat has significant wear, and is torn just a little. The passenger seat has the seam separated but is basically fine. If I were going to keep the car, the 2 small rust spots and the seats are what I would get fixed. The car has the original AM/FM with cassette. The radio works fine, but the cassette does not. There is also an equalizer located in the console, that works. Carpets are a little dirty and soiled, did not realize this until now, oh well. Front power windows go up and down but are slow. rear windows are fine. Paint is OK, not great. Car is a 10 footer, up close there are numerous chips dings and nicks visible. Included in the sale is a Dr Color Chip kit, custom color matched to Saab Cirrus White. Dash top is cracked and covered with a dash cap. Rear defrost works but is weak, in my opinion. Very slight oil drip, was told it is from head gasket, mechanic said not too bother with it unless it got worse. It hasn't.. The car will leave 1 or 2 drops at a time on the driveway. 1 small chip in windshield, in front of passenger, has not grown or changed. One other thing is that a small piece of trim on the face of the dashboard next to the instrument pod is peeling a bit. I am going to try and glue it back in to place. This is a nice car that we have enjoyed, but it is time to move on to something else. This is a fun fun fun summer time car. And actually, believe it or not, with its front wheel drive, the Saab is an excellent winter/ snow car if you intend to drive it year round. Selling at a No Reserve auctio. which is cheap I think. Car is listed for $2699 locally. I still believe that eventually these "classic" 900's will be recognized as collector cars and valued as such. However, we are not there yet, and as a result one can get in on the "ground floor". What else can you buy with this combination of style, performance and top down fun for what is essentially peanuts? Again, please call with questions or to discuss. If you are local, I am open to an inspection or test drive if you want it. Thank you and good luck.
