Vehicle Detail
A Really Special Hudson and a One of a Kind Vehicle!!! We finished the Restoration two months ago and drove it 800 miles to Syracuse, NY and back to NH with no problems except for 1 flat tire!!! After being bought in Newmarket in 1953, this car was a "Chief's Car" for 1 year before it was to become the "Tiger #1 (1856 Leslie Handtub) tow vehicle" until 1985!!! Just an awesome amount of history!!!! Please Call or eMail for all the details!!! Our Museum acquired this Vehicle is 1991 and brought the body to primer and did most of the Chrome plating, and did the interior at that point--- glad we did as the cost for chroming is just so high now!!! The car was originally a "lime green with a cream roof" but the Town of Newmarket painted it in the present colors in 1954--- this car is many steps better than a driver and with its history is a one of a kind!!! Particulars: all chrome is perfect except for one headlight cover which is pitted--- we have all the original parts and the pork chops/Hudson Emblems are perfectly chromed even though they were very pitted to begin withl!!! All 5 tires are new Universal wide White Walls, New Water Pump/ Belt/ New Fuel/ Vacuum Pump, New Master Cylinder--- new Wiper Vacuum Wiper Motor even though it runs intermittantly anyway (typical Hudson)!!!! The entire interior was redone including floor rugs and seats and top trim and visors!!! We really feel this is an awesome vehicle and all the restoration details are done for you--- and each paint scheme noted has a history!! The Siren and the "Bubble Light" on the top of the vehicle work (Light is actually a rare "Tripp" Light made in Chicago)-- the AM Radio was working in 1993 and we installed a new antenna but it does not work now and would have to be looked at--- An interesting part of the History of this Vehicle has to do with the Front of this car-- it has been pointed out to us by knowledgeable Hudson Collectors that the front grill and the front Hudson Hood Ornament seem to be 1952 Parts-- we know by the Serial Numbers that the car is definitely a 1953 (Built in November, 1953) and also know that the motor was built in September, 1953 but took a 1952 Fuel Pump to fit it. This car shows NO Evidence of an accident in the front and no one in Our Town recollects any changes being made to the front end--- We BELIEVE this car came from the Factory with this configuration as it is known that some leftover parts were sometimes used in the next model year in that time frame--- perhaps this makes it a "somewhat" one of a kind-- or the other options were that some of the parts were changed out-- we really cannot verify the information--- Thanx for looking!!!! Vince 603-659-3333 vj5729@aol.com See Below for even more information on the Great Condition of the Vehicle--- Many more Details are mentioned-- I wanted to provide some additional information!!! Though we had mentioned the major restoration points about the vehicle we wanted to give you a list of many of the "unseen" work on the vehicle. Naturally all the fluids were changed and the engine tuned up with the proper parts-- other items replaced includes the Emergency Brake Cable, Brake Shoes and Cylinders, water pump and belt, fuel pump and filter, and muffler system. In addition, the Carburator was rebuilt and the choke mechanism repaired so it works properly, the radiator was professionally cleaned and tested and blockages removed--- new thermostat installed and the Ranco Heater was bypassed for the summer but the parts are available to put the Heater back in service for the fall-- the Ranco Heater does NOT leak by the way!! New Weatherstripping was installed around the doors and Trunk Lid and the trunk was reupholstered and looks nice as shown in the pictures. As mentioned in the original writeup, the fuel pump has the new vacuum pump on top, new lines, a new vacuum motor and new cable wheels but still doesn't work great--- if you start them by hand they tend to go if the Windshield is wet (and we have 4 coats of Rainex on the windows!!) but electrification is probably the answer if you are going to use the car in all seasons. Other than the Headlight trim ring that possibly needs to be rechromed (looks OK but all the other Chrome pieces are "perfect"), the only other body item to mention is that some of the door stainless had "screw holes" in them which we had nicely repaired but there is some dulling of the stainless in those areas. The underside of the car is solid with no rust other than typical age surface rust-- floor panels are good-- we did repair 2 small rust holes (1" in diameter or less) in the stepdown door frame though there was absolutely no structural loss-- decided to do it so that they would not cause problems in the future. Original Visors were redone, door lights were repaired so they work properly, new keyways with new keys were made for the trunk and glove box and the door locks were repaired so they work. Need to know anything else about the car?? Just eMail or give me a call!! Thanx Vince vj5729@aol.com 603-659-3333
