Vehicle Detail
1979 Chrylser Cordoba Chysler 300 Clone If you're looking for a strong running car with classic looks, this may be the one for you! We bought this car just about a year ago for my son right here on EBay, but now my boy will be going in the Navy for 6 years and I need to clear my driveway! We purchased the vehicle from an auction on EBay, but also did a little research on it. The seller was honest, but truly was just a reseller who picked it up at a dealer auction, so he didn't know the history of the vehicle or everything that might be wrong with it. After having the vehicle for a year and also by doing our research, I think we can give you a complete picture of what you'll be getting. First, if you'd like to do some research yourself before bidding, the VIN for this car is SS22J9R112374. Look it up in a Google search and you'll see that some guy in Scottsdale AZ was trying to market it as a true Chrysler Cordoba 300 and selling it for almost 5 grand! Well, I think he was having some issues getting it to pass emissions in Arizona, so he must have gotten tired of his false advertisements and traded it in at a dealership. The dealership then auctioned it (as they do many older vehicles) to the person from whom we bought it. We paid $1250 for it, and thought it was quite a bargain, and the perfect car for my son to use to get to work and back (and later to his Navy recruiter's office). This is the stock Chrysler Cordoba with the 360 cu in engine with four barrel carb, automatic transmission, power windows, factory air conditioning, power steering, power disc brakes, power sunroof, front power seats, cruise control, and factory polished aluminum wheels. The previous owner added 300 badging by replacing the front grille and the door panels (see photos). Guess he couldn't find the actual 300 coins for the exterior body, because the Cordoba coins are still there. There are also plenty of extras with the car, like extra visors, weatherstripping, the original grille, etc. Glass is complete with no cracks, and the paint is in decent shape for a 32 year old car. And it's an Arizona car, so rust is not an issue. Here's what we have done to the car in the year since we purchased it on EBay: Got it to pass emissions in Arizona. We researched the emissions history, and it appears the previous owner was having some issues getting it done. Not the thing you want to find out after you bought the car in live in the metro Phoenix area! But, it was simply that the car's idle mixture was off. My son spent $80 at a repair place and it sailed through emissions. Replaced three of the four tires on the ground. The tires were simply old, and began developing cracks and leaks. The new owner will still need to replace one of the tires before too long, and we put the spare on the ground and that one in the trunk. Replaced the driver's side window regulator. However, the problem may have been in the switches, we'll get to that later. Pulled the thermostat to prevent overheating in the Arizona summer. Replaced the stereo and rear speakers with newer units. Now then, to be totally transparent about the issues with this car: We removed the headliner. It appears the sunroof may have been left open during a monsoon season, so the headliner was sagging badly. My son got tired of it flopping on his head, so he removed it. There is no radiator overflow reservoir, so it needs to be topped off every now and then (especially in the desert heat). I had my son be especially aware of any overheating because of our climate and the age of the vehicle (which is also why we removed the thermostat). There are some fluid leaks from the engine and transmission. Nothing major, but they'll need to be topped off every now and then. When the vehicle is cold in extreme weather, it sometimes needs to warm up before you can shift into reverse. The new owner may want to take it in for a transmission check up (and probably fix the leak). As stated above, we replaced the driver's side window regulator, as my son was having issues getting them to roll up and down. That didn't solve the problem, which leads us to believe it's more with the switches. As of now, neither of the power windows function. Someone with a little electrical knowledge may be able to fix this simply. (My son's going in the Navy to become an electrician, but I don't want to wait until his training is done to fix the windows). The previous owner re-routed the heater hoses, so the heater doesn't currently work. Not a problem in Phoenix, so we never pursued fixing it. The wipers work very weakly. As it only rains about 4 times a year in Phoenix, this was also not a priority for us. Weatherstipping could use replacing. Some additional weatherstripping is included in a box in the trunk. So, keep in mind that this is not a "true" 1979 Chrysler Cordoboa 300. Don't bid if you're looking for authenticity. However, it is a nice running car with "Rich Corinthian Leather" rear seats (remember the Ricardo Montalban commercials?). The front seats are fabric, which makes sense with our heat in Arizona, but I wouldn't have ordered the car that way. With just a little bit of work, it could be a nice daily driver for you. Or, fix her up completely and complete the transformation into a 300 Clone. BUYER is responsible for all transportation costs, taxes, emisisons and vehicle license fees. There is NO warranty guaranteed or implied for this vehicle. Winning bidder is responsible for any and all future repairs to the vehicle. Full payment is expected within 7 days of auction close, or the car will be re-listed and negative feedback will be left on the buyer. We will accept Money Order/Cashier's check or Cash in Person.
