Vehicle Detail
"She's the last of the V8 interceptors Max." From the land down under, this incredible Australian muscle car has lived in my sleepy little town about 75 miles from Los Angeles for the past seven years. It's hard enough to find a really clean Ford XB 2 door hardtop coupe in Australia. Here is your chance to buy one that already lives in the states. Conversely, if you live in Australia, this one can easily be shipped back your direction as I'm near both the major ports in Los Angeles. For those of you that recognize this car from an earlier listing on ebay, the high bidder from that auction forgot to check with his wife, or mother, or maybe his wife's mother and as a result, did not honor his bid. So here again is an opportunity to purchase one of the legends of Aussie muscle cars. I drive the XB several times a month and it is well known at local car shows and informal hot rod gatherings. This XB is an absolute pleasure to drive. The acceleration is excellent, braking equally on par and the road holding through the turns is astonishingly superb. Every time I drive this beauty I get a regular parade of 'thumbs up' and usually a crowd of interested onlookers when I return to the spot where it's parked. The XB Coupe was properly and legally imported to the United States and carries a State of California title in my name. Throughout my ownership, the registration and insurance have always been current and the car wears tags valid through March of 2012. Since I've owned the XB, it has been garaged only enjoyed on the driest of southern California days. The condition of this XB is excellent. The body and interior show very well and the mechanics are in sharp operating order. The body is super sound with solid rockers, floors, trunk, windscreen surround etc. The only spot where I can detect any corrosion is at the front edge of the left rear wheel arch. This is minor but I do see a few small raised spots in the paint at this location. The two-toned paint is very presentable and shines nicely. The black vinyl top is excellent and there is zero evidence of corrosion or damage under it. There are some imperfections in the paint, most notably a few drip marks on the black stripe below the lower belt line on the passenger side. Both front fenders have dings in them as you can see in the photos. As the photos show, this car looks absolutely beautiful. The interior is fantastic. The headliner and dome lights are in great shape, the rear seat and seat belts are beautiful, the front seats are near perfect with the exception of some wear at the very outer edge of the driver's seat. The center console and dash are fantastic, the only blemish is a small crack on the dash behind the fascia that is not visible unless you tuck your head in right up to the windscreen. The door panels are nice but do have some drying across the top from the hot Aussie sun. All of the gauges work properly. The oil pressure gauge reads slowly, always seems to be a few seconds behind what is actually happening; perhaps it needs a new sending unit. The headlamps (Hella halogen units) have been wired through a relay system to provide flawless operation and brightness. The 302 Cleveland motor is very strong and powers this car nicely. It is topped with a 4bbl carb on a Weiand X-CELerator manifold. The motor starts, idles and powers with no hesitation. The C4 transmission sports a shift kit that gives smooth cruising but kicks down and holds gears nicely under hard acceleration. The brakes stop the beast nicely and pull up very evenly under hard pressure. The suspension is tight and delivers a very smooth and predictable ride. Cruising at fast highway speeds is effortless and twisty roads are a delight with the aftermarket progressive rate coil springs up front. The period correct alloy wheels are in excellent condition and wear a set of brand new BF Goodrich Radial T/A tires. With this combination, the car looks and handles great. There is an old service sticker on the door jamb from a shop in Lithgow near Bathurst. It is my assumption that this is where the XB spent it's life prior to heading state-side. I had the NT Outback license plate hanging in my garage and thought it looked good on the XB. It also helps to convince skeptical onlookers in the grocery store parking lot of the car's heritage. The regular fluid changes and preventative maintenance on the XB are always up to date and I don't hesitate to jump in and drive this car anywhere. It really is a pleasure to drive and makes me smile every time I climb in. I strongly encourage inspections during the auction, I will gladly show the car to interested parties. If you wish to speak with me, please send a request and I will forward my phone number. Video of a quick run up the twisty section of Route 66 near my house yesterday with a little high speed run just for grins. Video clip of the perimeter of the car.
