Vehicle Detail

1988 Ford F250 DieselThis pickup is a 2wd xtra cab with a 5 speed manual trans. The engine is the 7.3 liter international non turbo diesel. The miles on the truck are only what are shown on the odometer, im sure it has rolled over but actual miles are unknown, odometer works and everything. This is an old truck and has many scratches over the paint and dents and dings. Its an old work truck and has hauled heavy loads all over and can still haul many more. It had a fifth wheel mounted in the bed when my dad still had the truck but that is gone. I recently put a brand new 12,000 pound receiver hitch on the back with new 7 pin and 4 pin trailer plugs. I have hauled 30 foot boats back from as far as Minnesota, compact tractors from Missouri, and other odd heavy items from long distances. The tires are in fair shape and should last another year or so depending on your driving, i estimate the tread at about 40-50%. Recent work to the truck includes some new bearings in the rear end, new seals on the rear hubs, new rear brake pads, 1 rear drum replaced, all new bushings in the front end, a couple new tie rod ends, just had the alignment done, driver side power window motor is new, new motor for wipers, new fuel filter housing heater element ($150 from ford), all new u joints, 2 brand new batteries, brand new windshield, im sure there is more but cant remember what else. The engine was rebuilt by my dad about 5 years ago and didnt get driven much by him after the rebuild. It got a lot of new parts at that time as well like starter, alternator i believe, the clutch was about $1000 alone. The truck runs and drives good. Shifts very well too. When starting the truck first thing in the morning it will crank about 10-15 seconds before it fires up. In the winter it takes a little longer and usually stop and crank it a second time till it will fire. It has a block heater as well. Once warmed up it starts very easily. It puffs some smoke when cold but clears up. When chugging up steep hills with a heavy load it will blow some black smoke but nothing bad. When running empty it gets about 19 mpg and when i load it down i was getting 14 mpg. The bad things about the truck are the fuel gauge does not work. It has dual fuel tanks and both tanks usually read really full all the time but sometimes they try to work again but go back to full. Im not sure if its just a loose connection or if it needs new sending units in the tanks. When i go on long trips i fill both fuel tanks, reset trip meter, run 1 tank till the engine dies and quickly switch tanks and if your on the highway just keep it in gear coasting down the road and it takes only a couple seconds for the engine to fire back up and you keep cruising along. I then go about 100 miles on the second tank and go fill up again. If i think the one tank is running low and im in town or in traffic i switch tanks before running out. But even if you run out of fuel in one tank while sitting stopped at a traffic light, dont worry, switch tanks, hold throttle about half way down and crank it over, it will fire back up and run rough for a few seconds and your ready to go. I have never had to bleed the injectors to get it started. When changing the fuel filter, just put a new one on empty and it will run. The lift pump works excellent and as long as you dont run both tanks empty you will be fine. The passenger side power window motor just quit working a few weeks ago. The cruise control has never worked since i have owned it or when my dad owned it. I picked up another cruise control box at a junk yard but i havent put it in yet. That might fix the problem. The bed has lots of dents on the inside, passenger side was scraped by something. The passenger side of cab has a rust hole in it, this is the only spot of rust anywhere on the truck, the frame is in great shape. This truck came from out west where it didnt see salt till just this year is the first year its been out on the east coast. Please look over the pictures well, i have described it the best i can, i wouldnt be afraid to drive this truck to California if you wanted to. It has its bumps and rattles but it still gets around well.Cap in picture fits this truck and is included. I would like it if you take the cap with but if you really dont want it then it can stay.Any questions feel free to ask.On May-30-11 at 11:33:43 PDT, seller added the following information: Some more things i remembered about the truck. All the fan belts are new, the emergency brake cables going into rear hubs are new, the cable from cab to where both rear cables connect hangs up, parking brake works but you have to reach right under cab and yank cable to get the parking brake to release, it will need the front cable replaced is all. This truck has A/C as well but doesnt always blow cold, it does work sometimes then goes hot, maybe needs a little more charge added to it.I recently flushed out the cooling system, put in new thermostat as well. Please ask questions about the truck, the high bidder will drive this home! I just bought a newer truck so this one is no longer needed. All the parts i have recently done to this truck have been done within the last 6 months and i have spent over $1000 in parts alone, does not include my time for all the work i did. I did not plan on getting rid of this truck but recently came across a truck i liked and bought it.
