Vehicle Detail

This auction is for a 1949 Ford 2 door sedan, also know as Shoebox Ford. I bought this car 5 years ago with the intention of restoring it and was not able to for a number of reasons. I have rewired it for 12 volts and installed a 12 volt alternator. I know you can get original looking generators that are 12 volt. The car has a V-8 flathead. The heads say Mercury on them, so I'm assuming that this is not the original engine for this car. The bullet on the grill says 6, not 8, so this also leads me to this belief. The engine started and ran as of one year ago, but it was kicking out black/ blue smoke. It probably needs a rebuild, or at least to have the gaskets replaced. I installed an Edelbrock intake with a Holley 4 barrel carburetor. I have not touched the transmission and I assume it's original. It looks original anyway. Brakes and tires are original as well. The brakes worked, but they will need some attention. The body is pretty solid. The rockers are rusty as with most of these cars, but someone sells replacement pieces and they should be easy to replace. The hood and trunk are solid. I removed the hood to work on the engine, so that will have to be put back on at some point. There weren't any seats or seat mounts when I bought the car, but I bought a low profile bench seat out of a 60's Buick Skylark that would have fit well once the car was chopped. It is not installed. A back seat will need to be purchased at some point. There is no interior to speak of. I painted the inside of the body with a ceramic insulating rust proof paint to stop any rust they may have begun. This thing should never rust again. The dash is nice and has a nice coat of metallic paint on it. The fuel tank was removed before I bought the car and it's using a small portable tank at the moment. Still works fine. The car has been lowered with blocks in the back and as far as I can tell, the springs were shortened in the front. I did not do either of these things. I did paint the car primer black about 5 years ago. All the glass is complete with the exception of the drivers side, which has some cracks in it. That should cover it... if you have any questions, please contact me before bidding. I'm available to show the car any time this week. I really enjoyed working on this car... I just wish I had more time to do it because it has a lot of potential. Not too much has been done to it, so someone could restore it to original shape or it could be rat-rodded out. The car has been in my garage for the last 5 years, so it's a little dusty, but I've included a picture of what it looked like when I was spending a lot of time on it so you can get an idea of what it could be in a short amount of time. I am available all week to show the car to anyone who would like to see it. On Oct-26-10 at 06:58:44 PDT, seller added the following information: I will also be including a set of chrome lake pipes with the car. I forgot to put that in the original description. There is also a Smithy's glass pack muffler already installed that will be going with the car too. On Oct-30-10 at 10:51:35 PDT, seller added the following information: I just went out to try get the car ready and I can't seem to find the key. I have a key on my keyring that I thought was the right one, but it goes in and doesn't turn. I'm on the hunt for it today, but it's possible I might not find it. Ignition switches aren't expensive for these cars. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions. On Oct-30-10 at 15:30:51 PDT, seller added the following information: I was just out going through the trunk and I found a pair of Red's headers that I bought and never installed. These are way better and sound a lot cooler than the stock headers that are on there now. So that makes: Holley 4 barrel carb, Edelbrock intake, Red's headers, lake pipes, Smithy's glass pack muffler, all included in this auction. On Oct-30-10 at 18:55:55 PDT, seller added the following information: Apparently, this listing is somewhat confusing because it gives my location as two different places. This car is in Kansas City, Missouri. I'm sorry if this has caused any inconvenience for anyone.
