Vehicle Detail

1978 Trans Am 400 Auto Red Exterior Black Interior Hurst T-Tops Car is located in Mountain Home, Arkansas (Baxter County). Vehicle is sold “as is, where is”. Has clear Arkansas title. Buyer is responsible for delivery. Seller will make himself available to help as needed. Bought this car as a project. But I’m 60 and 300 pounds and getting down and in and out isn’t like when I was 25. 78 TA’s are the very last of the great looking classics to come out of Detroit. Bird of prey front end was inspired by an early Pontiac concept car back in the 60’s, the “Banshee”. Very cool look, great second gen lines, T-tops, hood bird, flares, engine vents . . . Does need TLC all over. Engine: runs, has big “loping” cam with single plane intake. Engine is a mystery, is 400, but not sure of cam or compression (probably just cam, intake and carb). Duel exhaust dumps under car. Does not run hot, starts good, little cold blooded. Has “lop” if you like that sound . . . They put an adaptor to run the taller single plane intake and keep the shaker. Needs AC and Heat, no compressor. Interior: Ignition key is stuck in switch and will not come out. I do not have a door key or glove box key and have no way to open trunk, so have never seen inside the trunk. Speedo cable got burned next to exhaust (I have new cable). Driver’s power window not working (have new switch, but could be motor) passenger window working sometimes, but slow. Needs tach hooked up or repaired (is there). Needs new light switch, is there and works, but pushed back into the dash. (Oil pressure and water temp work.) Needs headliner and rubber around door seals, windows, and T-tops (leaking). Exterior: Needs new windshield. Paint has dull spots, peeling spots and is very far from perfect. Was thinking might be able to save paint job and have it touched up here and there and blended. Most important thing, either the brake booster isn’t working or the vacuum canister the guy put in isn’t working. The power brakes are not working as they should, no power, you have to stand on the pedal (I drove it 100 miles home, car seems fine, but brakes are not there). I would suspect power booster, seller thought maybe the vacuum canister. I think it takes a lot of cam to rob brakes, more than this car sounds to have . . . The last owner did put a rear end in it with disc brakes out of another TA, so it has 4-wheel disc brakes. Has nice snow flake wheels and newer tires. Car will never be for sale lower than $8,500. If it doesn’t sell, I’ll fix it up in the spring and keep it. Thank you for taking your time to look, and if you have any questions please write.
