The second-generation Chevrolet Camaro enjoyed a long production run from its 1970 introduction to its final bow before the debut of the new model in 1982. While the factory big block engine disappeared from the option list after 1972, it is still the driving force in many custom-built Camaro Resto Mods, including this nicely crafted 1981 Z28. Wrapped in crisp Viper Metallic Blue paint and sporting the T-Top roof that was a popular option, it wears all the finery of the factory Z28: front and rear spoilers, front fender louvers and wheel well “spats” popularized by the Camaro’s sibling Firebird. Front and rear blackouts have been added, and the stock cold air hood scoop has given way to an L88-style cowl induction unit. It’s all spit-and-polish below decks in the glittering engine compartment where the Camaros 9.5:1 compression 427 CI big block uses polished aluminum heads, a 750 CFM 4-barrel and polished Eldelbrock Performer RPM air gap intake, air cleaner and valve covers, a performance cam, MSD ignition, tube headers with 3 inch dual exhaust and a dependable Be Cool cooling system. A custom built torque converter dries the horses to a B & M kitted 350 turbo automatic transmission.
