I bought my R1100RTL and quickly learned that this is, by far, the best all-around motorcycle I have ever owned. If you know about this particular model the "L" is the version with the radio and cassette player. I've been street riding for many years and have owned many other street bikes. None compare to this Beemer. This is my second BMW. I liked it so much I recently bought a newer R1150RTL. If you can have only one bike at a time - this is the one to have. It handles as well or better than a sport bike, is super comfortable for 600 mile days, can carry 450 lbs of load without breaking a sweat, can go 250+ miles between fuel stops, is not bothered by rain, keeps your hands warm in the cold, and doesn't bake you in the heat. No other bike can do all these things as well as the RT. It is as comfortable going out for a gallon of milk as it is taking off two-up to Canada. I've had no trouble with this bike at all. I now have my other used RT and I know that regardless of mileage; these are quality machines. It comes with an aftermarket wind screen (plus the original), Rustle All Day Seat, PIAA lights mounted professionally all three bags (two side and one on top). Records, keys, manual, documents and more.....For long distance touring or commuting, the R1100RTL fits the bill. The handling is steady rather than exciting and the combination of weight and aerodynamics make this Beemer a joy to ride on the highway, even in windy conditions. The seat and riding position are a comfortable combination while the electric screen is indispensable for fall weather riding. I have been doing a regular 60 mile commute on my '96 R1100RTL. The R1100RT has received numerous awards from motorcycle magazines. Cycle World selected the RT as the Best Liter-Class Sport-Tourer in 1998, 1997, and the year it was introduced, 1996. Rider Magazine chose the RT as the Top Liter-Class Sport-Tourer in 1999, 1998, 1997, and 1996. In addition to extensive changes to the full fairing, the engine power was increased significantly from 44 to 66 kW (60 to 90 hp), and the capacity increased from 971 cc to 1085 cc. It has a bore of 99 mm, a stroke of 70.5 mm, and a compression ratio of 10.7:1. Top speed is 211 km/h, and the time to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h is 3.9 seconds.The bike comes standard with an anti-lock braking system and a regulated three-way catalytic converter. The chassis is constructed in three parts and consists of front and rear frame and a co-supporting ligands motor-gear unit. The suspension was formed on the front by a Telelever and the rear via a Paralever swingarm.The fuel tank holds 25.2 liters (6.6 gallons), 6 liters (1.5 gallons) reserve. The average fuel consumption is 4.7 liters per 100 km (60mpg) at a speed of 90 km/h (56mph) or 5.6 liters (50mpg) at 120 km/h (75mph). The manufacturer recommends the use of petrol with a knock resistance of at least 95 octane. The front tyres have the dimensions 120/70 ZR 17 and rear 160/60 ZR 18.
