Vehicle Detail
It's been a great ride, but it's time to thin the herd and free up some garage space. This 1200GS has spent most of the last year or so moping in the corner, so it needs to find someone that will give it the exercise it deserves. The clock shows about 51,000 miles, all BMW updates and recalls are current, and it's ready to ride to work or across the country and back. You can view a video made May 13, 2018 of the bike starting and running HERE 2 year old Metzler Tourance tires with only 200 miles, new rear brake pads, 2 year old battery, and more: •Rocky Mayer custom rider's heated saddle with Heattroller controller and leather covers for both rider and pillion •Custom urethane paint: Black with blue pearl highlights over white with violet pearl highlights •Ohlins front and rear shocks with neoprene sleeves •Jessee Odyssey water tight aluminum saddle bags with custom neoprene linings •Stainless Steel Touratech engine guards •Heavy duty aluminum reinforced Cycra handlebar guards •Wunderlich Lexan windscreen •BestRest aluminum engine and center stand skid plates •Hella high performance horns •Stainless steel Fastway foot pegs •Wunderlich handlebar risers •Wunderlich front fender extender •Wunderlich steering stops •Wunderlich rear brake switch cover •Wunderlich secure oil filler cap •Wunderlich clear turn signal lenses front and rear •Farklemaster "Eyes of God" HID driving lights relay slaved to headlight high beam •Motorrad Elektrik Beacon LED tail light •Vista throttle lock •Run-N-Lites LED turn signals front and rear Complete details of these modifications and more can be found HERE BMW factory tool kit and tire repair kit are included with the bike. A large box of hardware, mostly BMW factory parts such as the windscreen and saddle bag mounts, will also be included with the purchase. I am the original owner of the bike and have a clean California title in hand. The registration is non-opped with the California DMV and there are no back fees due if you decide to register it in California. The bike is located in Yankee Hill, California, about 30 minutes outside of Chico. I'd be happy to answer inquiries for more info. Include your phone number and a time when you're available to talk and I'll call you back. Thanks for lookin'! On May-18-18 at 09:23:53 PDT, seller added the following information: Someone asked about the seat height. Measured about 6" behind the fuel tank at the lowest spot on the saddle, the unladen seat height is 35". Someone also asked if the bike "needed" anything. It's been sitting covered in a garage for about two years, and if I was going to keep it I'd change the oil and brake fluid. Then again if I purchased a new-to-me motorcycle, I'd do the same, just so I'd have a known maintenance baseline to start from.On May-19-18 at 17:36:06 PDT, seller added the following information: Also included is a very thick file folder containing all of the instruction sheets from the various modifications on the bike, receipts for BMW dealer recall and other work, and various other documentation related to the motorcycle. The owners handbook will be found in the factory spot under the seat behind the fuel tank, inside a protective plastic pouch. There's also a spare ignition key, and two keys for the Jessee saddle bags. A word to the wise: Two weeks ago a potential buyer of another BMW motorcycle I was selling on eBay contacted me after the auction closed. He told me that he was trying to submit a last minute bid (snipe) and his internet connection froze. He indicated it was a problem with the eBay site, as everything else in his web browser seemed to be unaffected. eBay cautions buyers to rely on the autobid function for just this reason. He was willing to bid much higher than the closing price, but lost out due to a technical glitch. Don't let this happen to you, use autobid! On May-19-18 at 20:27:42 PDT, seller added the following information: Looking at the photos, they really don't do justice to the paint on this bike. So I took some closeups just now that help show the true colors, and added them at the end of the photo grouping above. The first thing you'll notice is that there is no lip or bump between the black and white areas. That's because the black/blue pearl is buried under a bunch of coats of clear, then color sanded by hand to achieve a uniform smooth surface. That takes a lot of time and care to get it right. The violet pearl over the white shines like an opal in direct sunlight, but only when struck at certain angles. So as you walk around the bike, you'll see flashes of color as the sun plays over the surfaces at different angles. The blue pearl on the black was just a dusting, and in the sun you see predominantly blue points of light as the sun hits it, but you'll also see all the other colors in the rainbow, too. The paint job is a real head turner, and won "Best Paint" at the '05 bike show at the '49er Rally. No matter where you go, you'll always have someone to talk to, because everyone want's to come up and tell you what they think of the "zebra", and how they used to ride, or still do. Oh, one more thing. The California cosmetic plate "DKTARII" goes with the bike. The paint is what happens when you let a seven year old kid watch too much TV. Back in the '60s, there was a show called Daktari, where a veterinarian in Africa used zebra striped Land Rovers to capture animals that needed treatment. I painted a K1200RS with the same white/violet I used on the GS, and was going to do a "Daktari" paint scheme on it, but my riding buddy at the time said he'd be too embarrassed to hang out with me if I did. When I picked up an R100GS shortly after that, I really liked the purple color until the Barney jokes started, so that was the first of the "Daktari" bikes. I still have it, and at over 150,000 miles, have ridden the heck out of it. I'd planned on using the same Jessee bags on the R1200GS as were on the R100GS, so had to paint it to match, only to discover that the 100GS bags wouldn't work on the 1200GS brackets. To that meant another $1000 for yet another set of Jessee bags, and a whole lot more color sanding. That pretty much cured me from doing any more "Daktari" paint jobs...
