My 16 month search for a 5 speed 3rd gen (This is from the era when 4runner's were considered luxury vehicles) in good condition ended with me buying this one from the original owner a few months ago. I received a Maryland title from 1999 showing 28 miles before transferring it to my name. This SR5 4wd was garage kept and meticulously maintained but after 363k miles the 5vzfe was due for an overhaul. I have a file of service records dating 10+ years, to give you an idea at one point the exhaust system was damaged so he bought an entire new OEM exhaust assembly. I bought the truck and rebuilt the 5vz-fe with a new headgasket, machine work to the head, and adjusted the valves to spec. Also installed a new timing belt and water pump. The only mileage I have put on it since then is about 1600 miles including a 1200 mile trip. I had no problems and I wouldn't hesitate to drive it anywhere as is. Interior in very good condition. There are no broken parts inside and no tears in any of the seats.Overall the paint is very good. Clear coat hasnt lost luster, even on the roof. The bumper has 2 dings. There is a ding under the license plate. The truck doesnt appear to have ever towed anything in its life so I dont know where it came from. The original owner put a small sticker on the driver door which I haven't removed. There is a spot that was repaired in front of the front right tire.Truck was in Maryland so it has minor rust with the worst spot being the rear diff, common for 3rd gens, with most of it being confined to the cover plate.The temp gauge in the dash is not working, I have parts ordered so it may be working by the time the auction closes. Gets upwards of 20mpg highway which is a good indication that all sensors are OEM and in good working condition. No oil leaks anywhere on the truck. No noises coming from the suspension. Shocks in good condition.All windows including back glass and sunroof work well with no leaks. The rear hatch latch can be difficult to operate but works. The hood latch sticks sometimes but is getting better since applying grease. The 4wd was tested and works great. The shifter is easy to operate and the vacuum actuated hubs responded quickly. The truck is factory stock with no modifications. Must say the factory stereo sounds very good. The build of the truck has a level of quality not found today even in many luxury vehicles.All in all you will be hard pressed to find a 3rd gen in this condition at any mileage anywhere, much less a manual 4x4. With the freshened motor and manual trans it will serve someone well for many miles if the condition continues to be maintained as it has been so far. Included are original key and key fob.
