You can get over 50 MPG as-is. 2001 with a manual transmission Clean Title in hand, I'm the 3rd owner 272XXX Miles 49.1 LMPG Car located near Atlanta, Georgia, buyer has to arrange pickup Passed Georgia Emissions in November 2017 A/C works Engine is good Interior 7/10 Exterior 5/10 IMA battery is dead (P1449) and is unrecoverable. You don't need the IMA to drive this car, I would recommend removing it entirely. In its current configuration you can get over 50 MPG, my best was about 56. Car has a clean title, but the exterior is pretty ugly from most angles. Missing plastic panels under the car, if replaced your mpg can go higher. Paint peeling on bumpers, front bumper is ugly and has a small split in it. Tires are good. Interior is actually all right, no holes in the seats, climate control works, all interior trim pieces are present except floor mats. Windows roll slowly, some discolouration on passenger side of dashboard. Trip buttons work, I replaced them already. (Common issue on this car for those to fail.) I did a valve adjustment last year, but it didn't even need it. Needs a rad coolant flush, should replace knock sensor at same time, but it's not throwing a code for the knock sensor. Has new EGR valve & lower engine mount. Has clean filters (oil, cabin, air) and clean oil and the brake fluid looks new. Probably needs new clutch fluid. No leaks or anything that I've seen. Doesn't have the common 2nd-gear-grind issue these cars usually have, but it does sound a little noisy in neutral.
