Vehicle Detail
Please help me out. This was my Dad's 1976 Mercedes Benz 450 SLC hard top coup, which he loved and put a lot of money into restoring to all original with new old stock parts from Germany. He even entered it into amateur car shows, there is a plaque in the glove box for a Concours d'Elegance. It was in excellent shape with119k on last registration, I think its around 126k now, but he died in 2013 in Maine. I was also gravely ill at the time and have had to process his estate so the car had been left outside and neglected in the elements for quite a while. I managed to sell his other vehicles but this is the last one left. - The caretaker has moved it to his personal lot and had gotten the car to start and run, but there is now extensive rust on the underside, and he discovered a hole in the gas tank. I am just going to assume it is not able to pass a road safety test as it is right now. He needs to clear room so the vehicle needs to go. ASAP. So, I am selling it as-is, no reserve. Due to the condition I am asking what we would probably get for scrap right now, which is where it will go soon if I can't sell it. My listing fees will wipe this out. For the sake of my dad's memory for the love of the car, and the literally tens of thousands of dollars he put into it, I want to give someone out there a chance to get it for a re-restoration or just as a parts car to help them restore theirs. The picture is his flyer from when he was selling it for $6500, which seemed what its market value was when it was in good, original shape, which it is not now. - So if you bid on this please understand 1. I cannot vouch for the condition of the car. I know my Dad dumped a LOT of money into NOS parts from Germany, far more than the car is worth, so I can only expect it is good for some of those parts and a running condition engine. Anything else is a bonus to the purchaser. Thus why I have priced it appropriately. 2. The car is located in Calais Maine and the buyer is responsible for pick up. It is not in safe driving condition so you must either trailer it yourself or contract a transporter. There are several services, including local, available. 3. If you are a dealer, please do not contact me with solicitations for trades or sales, I am not interested, I already have enough vehicles and am trying to get rid of this one. 4. This car needs to move. I have received multiple generous offers for individual components, but I am not in a position to part it out, it must go, it must be sold all together AS-IS. Take it away. 5. SERIOUS BIDDERS ONLY, Please. I have had a number of people contact me, hemming and hawing, and then failing to respond. As much as I enjoy talking about cars, and would love to banter auto restoration, for the sake of the caretakers patience, this thing needs to go. I have put it up for a pretty fair give-away price, from the offers I have received on parts, It appears you should at least be able to get that much out of it if you take the risk. Take that valuation into consideration of what you expect to get out of it. - Otherwise, please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions, just please be aware it is in the possession of the caretaker and not myself. I will try to get some more pictures of it, but it doesn't sound pretty. You are welcome to see it in person, but you must go to the location. The caretaker will be happy to show it to any serious customers, but he can only spare so much time as he is also running his own business. So, hopefully this is set at the right price, paypal preferred, no reserve, and happy bidding. Thanks for looking.
