Vehicle Detail

Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 This 1987 CMX450C Rebel was saved a few years ago from a young kid who was going to ‘customize’ it. Rather than allow him to destroy it we talked him into letting us buy it from him. I put it in my back room over that winter so it could recover, then that spring it got the work it deserved: New Dunlop 404 Tires (The same tires found on Gold Wings and Harley Davidsons) New factory Honda fork seals New factory Honda brake pads Brake fluid flush New air filter New correct NGK spark plugs Carburetor cleaning and adjustmentOil change - again with original Honda filter The fork seals were replaced with O.E. Honda parts (see photo) as were the brake pads. The brakes were not worn, but the leaking fork oil had run onto them. Oiled brakes are not what you want so the pads were replaced and rotor cleaned. The carburetors were cleaned and synchronized – it starts, idles and runs perfectly. The battery in the bike is a Yuasa (the same brand Honda uses) and is just over one year old. The short seat height and long wheelbase make this bike excellent for a beginner, yet strong enough to keep. Over the years I’ve heard it said that a 450 is not a big enough bike. Well, I have personally ridden along side a 450 from Philadelphia to Cedar Rapids with a detour into Michigan (1200 miles or so) See the last photo? That's her Rebel at Beaver Stadium at Penn State, what a great trip! Anyway, the bike will run just short of 100mph if you are so inclined, but the best part about the engine is its very predictable and easy to control: if you want more, just twist more. There is no surprise power delivery nor weak spots as you accelerate. It is just the bike that all Rebel 250 owners wish they had bought. These bikes are somewhat rare, mostly due to when you find them they are in really poor condition. Obviously that is not the case here! What is rare about them is finding a factory sissy bar for one! Another thing that is tough to find is the original tool kit – this bike has both. Is the bike perfect? No. The chrome finish has a few marks in it – the worst of that being the battery cover top, but overall the bike looks terrific and more importantly runs perfectly. You will not be disappointed. This is not the only Rebel I have saved over the years. Please look back through my feedback to find a comment that’s just over a year old. It was for the last 450 I sold. That one went to Texas, I held the bike until the buyer could arrange shipping. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to call me at 319 310 0451. Thank you and good luck. P.S. I'm working on a video so you can see/hear it run. Please stay tuned... The photos are huge, I apologize for the load time.
