Vehicle Detail
A brief history of the Continental Mark ll In October of 1955, the newly formed Lincoln Motor Car Company released the 1956 Lincoln Mark ll in an attempt to capture the high end Luxury car market, held previously by Rolls Royce and other European car makers. The Continental Mark ll carried a price tag of $10,000 in 1956, which was at least 50% more than all other American cars of the time. With its long hood, short deck and a trunk sculptured to hold the "continental" spare in a semi upright position, it captured the the proportions and sporty , yet elegant spirit of its handsome predecessor, and succeeded in becoming the "long and low" look that is still sought after in many sports cars today, while still maintaining an abundance of headroom. The Mark ll’s were extensively inspected and tested during all critical stages of construction, and exhaustively road tested prior to release for delivery. For whatever reason, the company closed in 1957, having produced about 2,500 automobiles, many of which are still around today. This is a very complete running and driving car. It is not perfect, but an excellent candidate for a high end restoration. It has a 368 CID V8 engine which runs very well and is equipped with the only factory option which was an air conditioner. Included are the Parts Manual, Authenticity Manual, and Technical Manual. I have owned the car for about 10 years, but I am downsizing due to health, and it would be easier to sell than transport. I have set a very reasonable reserve, and I am open to offers. Thanks
