Vehicle Detail
First thing: This car has a 'Rebuilt Salvage' branded title. More on that below, but quick version: car was in a minor front fender-bender, airbags did not deploy. Check with your local dmv, a 'Rebulit' title functions just like a regular title, all the inspections etc have been done. Condition: Nice, competent little car. I bought it on a lark a few months ago, bought it in NYC, drove it back to Houston, drove perfect. Everything works (one exception: cruise control; light doesn't even come on, so maybe just the switch is bad?): good a/c, newer, matching set of four Hankook tires, starts, stops, runs as it should. Radio I replaced, is a VW-specific (that's why it looks so stock) Blaupunkt I bought from Crutchfield. Radio has a rearview camera I installed, is iPhone (and I think Android) ready, Bluetooth, and has Navigation. I've only tried the nav once, seems pretty good, has a lot of options, etc. Radio also plays DVDs (could set it up for rear seat viewing).Mechanicals. Good generally. Surprisingly nimble to drive, and a comfortable car. I was pleasantly surprised with the engine, the 2.5 five-cylinder is smooth and has plenty of power. Gets good mileage (I think these are rated at 24 city/31 highway), and one advantage over the turbo: takes regular 87, not premium gas. Shocks, brakes, shifting, etc feel good. Only thing I've done is install a DieselGeek short shift kit (this car in factory form has a good accurate shifter, but very long throws, which the shift kit helped a lot). Body. Generally decent, considering the price range: a few scratches and dings (see pics: drivers door has three dings, and one by the fuel door, a pro can probably take all of these out), this was an east coast car after all. On the rebuilt salvage title: previous owner bought the car from insurance, had it for about a year. Car was hit in the front, but airbags did not deploy (no warning lights are on in the car). Previous owner replaced the front bumper and radiator. When I got the car it still had a small dent in the hood, I went ahead and replaced that with a new one--paint isn't perfect, but it's decent for the price range. If you look closely (see pics) you can see on the left side the gaps are off, etc, but not too bad. All the hard work is done, if you're good with that sort of thing you could probably spend a Saturday properly fitting the hood, and make it look a lot better. 'Rebuilt Salvage' title. If you're unfamiliar with them, check with your own state, but I didn't have to do anything special in TX, registered it like any other car. After all, the 'rebuilt' process has already be done. The important thing is that this car was in a minor accident (compared to say a totaled, or flooded car), and airbags didn't deploy. There is an obvious upside to a rebuilt title: for the buyer, it can save a few thousands... Interior. Nice, comfortable leatherette seats. Backseat is pretty decent, esp. compared to the Mini, and also a larger trunk as well. Non-smoker, non-pet car. Etc. Title in my name. I have the original owner's manual, but I only have one key. Just recently had an oil change and tires rotated and balanced. Car is in Stafford (suburb of Houston), TX. Terms. Please refer to above and pictures closely, any questions don't hesitate. This is an 'As-Is, Where-Is' sale, no warranty is give, express or implied. $500 deposit due immediately, balance due within seven days, whether car has been picked up or not. Thanks
