Vehicle Detail
1952 Velocette MAC 350cc. This is an older restoration, carried out to a high standard by a professional motorcycle technician. Every component was restored to the original specification, resulting a very strong-running, reliable machine. Unlike many older motorcycles, this one is capable of being used frequently: I've put in many 100+ mile rides and without ever being left at the side of the road. Details:- Reliable one-kick starter, provided the correct procedure is followed. Motor is very smooth and powerful (for its size). Cruising speed at an indicated 60mph is possible.Leaks a little oil on start-up if it hasn't been run for a month or so, but otherwise remarkably oil-tight. Does not burn any oil at all.Smooth, light clutch - doesn't slip or drag - and the gearbox shifts cleanly every time. Excellent paintwork, with deep, glossy finish on the tank and fenders. A few small chips and marks from gentle use, plus a larger mark on the top of the toolbox, where the passenger saddle was rubbing. Paint has been touched-in around the saddle mounting holes too.Period passenger sprung "Lycette" saddle included, but not currently mounted or shown in the pictures. It matches the rider's saddle in style and condition. I removed it to install a smaller fender-mounted passenger pad, then discovered the mounting holes do not match with the new pad. I was reluctant to drill further holes and did not proceed. Both saddles will be proved with the bike.Correct Miller dynamo and lighting equipment, nicely restored. Ammeter and switches all work correctly; a modern 6-volt horn is fitted. The battery is a small 6-volt item hidden within a plastic "Lucas" replica case, with a stainless-steel strap. The internal battery does not hold a charge for long, but quickly charges up when the bike is being ridden.Very nice chrome exhaust system with the correct fishtail muffler. Sounds superb! Some very light wear and/or corrosion on some items, including the oil tank cap, handlebar retaining bolts, when spindle hardware etc. Nothing significant and does not affect usability at all.Correct, fully-working Smiths Chronometric speedometer. The mileage shown (7,355) is since the restoration; I have no idea what the total mileage might be.Brand-new Dunlop K70 tires and inner tubes just fitted, balanced with "Dynabeads" for smooth running. Wheels were rebuilt, with new spokes and bearings during the restoration.Overall, this is a rare opportunity to buy an early Velocette that is ready to ride. The small cosmetic imperfection don't detract from the overall impression of a beautifully finished motorcycle. A regular class winner at numerous regional Vintage Motorcycle shows, this bike is always admired and appreciated. Owned by me for about 6 years, it's only offered for sale due to the acquisition of another Velocette, which needs time and money. Important Note: Alabama does NOT issue Titles for bikes of this age, therefore it will be sold with NO Title, on a Bill Of Sale ONLY. Please verify that this is acceptable to your State licensing regulations before you bid. Delivery: I can store the bike free-of-charge for a maximum of 30 days after the auction ends. All shipping arrangements and expenses are the buyer's responsibility, although I will work with your shipper to coordinate collection and ensure safe loading, etc. I have had consistent, excellent service from STI Logistics but there are plenty of other goods shippers available.
