Vehicle Detail
I first bought this Bronco in 1999. It was a bone stock utility model with a 289, 3 speed, bench seat. After getting it home I spent the next several years transforming it into what you see today. Here is a list of the work done: I installed a new 302 motor with high performance cast iron heads and RV cam rated 270 HP, Edelbrock Performer manifold and a 4 barrel Quadrajet carb. It has an MSD ignition. Long Tube headers feed a single 3" exhaust. The motor has less than 20K miles on it by my estimation. Transmission is a rebuilt NP435 4 speed truck transmission. The transfer case is the stock Dana 20. The front differential is a Dana 44 with a Tru-Trac limited slip out of a 1971 Bronco. The rear differential is a Curie 9" with a Detroit Locker and 31 spline axles. It has 4.11 gears and Warn Premium hubs. The Bronco has a 5" lift with Rancho shocks and runs on brand new 35 X 12.50 X 15 Hankook Mud Terrain tires. It has a Wild Horse Power steering conversion. Front brakes have been converted to disc and also has the Wild Horse Power brake conversion with SS brake lines. The entire electrical system was rewired with a Centech wire harness. Bumpers front and rear are custom steel with a Mile Marker winch in front and swing away tire carrier in the rear. A custom 23 gallon gas tank was installed. I had a custom roll cage built and it has a homemade kayak rack on top. The front bench seat was refurbished and covered with Sunbrella fabric with three custom pockets sewn in the back. It has a Pioneer AM/FM CD player. The original vacuum wipers were converted to electric. The 1966 Broncos were unique in that they came with removable window frames. I have the frames and the glass windows. I also have a full Kayline soft top that can be installed but have had it off continuously after the first year. I've stuck with the windowless option with the bikini top. This truck runs strong and drives very nice. The gauges and speedo all work. The mileage on the speedo is not correct because I replaced it. My focus on this project was to build a very stout truck with strong running gear. I have not neglected the body but I also have not put much into it either. The drivers floorboard was replaced and the inner fender wells were patched the coated with POR. The interior tub was coated with roll on bed liner. The paint is not new and has some dings and scratches. The hood is fiberglass with a rattle can paint job. I built a custom tool locker behind the seat bulkhead and I'll throw in the HiLift Jack. The pictures you see were taken in January, 2017. So here is a list of what I know is wrong with the Bronco. The rear window tracks need to be replaced. I found them available new at Bronco Graveyard for $20 ea. Part #s 14348 and 14344. I haven't bothered to fix them because I always run it topless. The horn does not work. I've mainly used this Bronco for hunting, fishing, and exploring the Arizona desert and it has served me well. It's time for someone else to have fun with it now.
