Up for sale is a 72,000 mile, two owner (me being the second owner), unmolested, always adult owned time capsule of a 1974 Firebird Formula 350. I bought this car off the original owner who has had the car stored in his garage, up on blocks, covered for many, many years. The original owner (my father’s neighbor and good friend) is a very “by-the-book” person when it comes to vehicle maintenance. All regular maintenance was always performed on schedule, and he always used GM or AC Delco parts. He also saved a treasure trove of paper work for this car from before day one…meaning his paper trail starts with the original hand written order at the dealership, the factory acknowledgement of the same order from the factory once it was entered into the production system, the build sheet, window sticker, etc… It’s a gold mine of original owner and factory information This is an extremely nice, very tight and smooth running, low mile survivor car. This car has NO BODY FILLER! The car is 100% original sheet metal. There are NO hidden surprises here. The paint is 95% original and looks terrific for its age. EVERYTHING on the car works…including the clock. The AM/FM does work, but plays very quietly. I have not looked into that. One thing I would like to note: The car still has 100% of its ORIGINAL WEATHERSTRIPPING that is in beautiful condition!!!! I would also like to mention that the A/C in this car works fantastic as well! I measured the air temp at the driver side dash vent a week ago when the outside temp was at 92º, and the vent temp registered a very comfortable 39º!! How many 42 year old cars can make that claim? I don’t know, but I do know that THIS bird is one of them!!The car sounds solid too when open and closed. The doors align beautifully and still make that solid "schooomp" sound when they close...you know, that new car door closing sound, which certainly has everything to do with alignment and soft original weatherstripping. The trunk lid sounds the same way....SOLID! No "tin-can-bong" sound on this car, like almost all of the old ones get. You have to experience it to actually believe it. You'll be hard pressed to find another one like this one!!! This car can and will make someone a very easy restoration project that can actually be driven throughout the process! Most cars of this age require extensive structural work---but not this one. Light metalwork and some simple cosmetic restoration is all that's needed to make this car look as beautiful as it did the day it rolled off the assembly line. I will cover the car in sections below which will hopefully answer many questions that may arise, but if someone has any questions, just ask and I’ll be happy to answer them. Now, onto the details…. ENGINE / TRANSMISSION / DIFFERENTIAL Specs: VIN code N, 350 cu.in. 2bbl carb factory dual exhaust (as indicated by the VIN’s 5th digit N) NEW true dual exhaust system from the manifolds back!! All stock drivetrain, NO modifications whatsoever. Trans is a TH350 and has just had a fluid and filter change performed. The differential is a SAFE-T-TRACK positraction 2.73 gear ratio rear, which gives this car the best fuel economy of all the big block V8’s. Car has NO LEAKS and does not drip on the ground!!! Fuel Delivery: Freshly rebuilt original carburetor. All factory adjustments on the carb were checked and found to still be at original specs. Heated choke performs flawlessly and exactly as designed. New fuel pump, fuel filter, new rubber fuel lines at tank to line connection – at mid frame line connections – from steel lines fuel pump feed. Ignition: New distributor cap, rotor, points, spark plugs and spark plug wires (All AC Delco parts). Other: New air filter and PCV valve.Set timing and dwell to factory specifications. BODY Brakes / Suspension: Brake system has a new master cylinder (not rebuilt), freshly rebuilt original; front calipers, and brand new rear wheel cylinders. Brake lines were flushed to ensure system has crystal clear fluid throughout. Suspension is very tight, as is steering, with no slop or play whatsoever. Car tracks straight and stops straight with no pulling. All shocks replaced with new AC Delco units. NOTE: This Formula came from the factory with the 1-1/4” front and 7/8” rear sway bars….same as the Trans Am!!! The tires will need to be replaced. Although there is good tread and even wear on all of them, I have no idea exactly how old they are…but if it’s any indication of age, the size indicated on these BFG’s are GR-70. Exterior: Denver Gold paint. The car was Ziebarted when new. The floor pans, front and rear frame rails, and trunk pan are in excellent condition with NO RUST or ROT! The bad spots are on the body as seen in the pictures. Both doors are RUST FREE underneath (again, see pics). Car still has 100% of its original weatherstripping that is in excellent condition. Door glass is scratch free on both sides. Windows roll up and down smoothly on both doors. This car has NEVER HAD ANY COLLISION DAMAGE! *** I will also include a brand new fiberglass front header filler panel. This is the piece that mounts between the headlights, just under the grills, between the bumper and bottom of the header panel. The original piece was urethane and crumbled away with age. *** Interior: Saddle Deluxe Interior. The dash pad is uncut at the radio mount, and is 100% CRACK FREE!!! Interior is all original except for the headliner. It was replaced years ago with the cloth type and will need to be replaced again. All interior plastics are in EXCELLENT condition with NO chalking or cracking whatsoever, which is extremely rare for cars with colored interiors. The only exception to this are the little covers at the ends of the door pulls on the driver door. They are there but need to be replaced. Driver seat has 2 seam separations and is wear-cracked on the outer bolster near the bottom. The seat can be repaired inexpensively by any upholstery shop---the seat covers do NOT need to be replaced—they are still soft and pliable. Same for the door panels, no rips or tears and they are still soft and pliable. In fact, the original carpeting is still in excellent condition and does not need to be replaced. This car has NEVER been smoked in so there are NO BURNS or acrid smoke odor to be found here…yet another rarity on a car this age! This car was always stored indoors, very pampered and well taken care of --- and it shows! Electrical: All of the electrical components work including the clock. Even the 1974 one year seat belt interlock system works as it did when new. The car does have the auxiliary floor and trunk lighting as well, and all bulbs work To appreciate the car for for everything it is, it really needs to be seen in person. I don't believe that written descriptions and pictures do this car the justice it deserves, but for those who can not come to see it first hand but have questions, I will make every possible effort to act as your "eyes" and take any detailed photos you may request, as well as give honest and accurate descriptions. I have driven the car locally, and can tell you what an absolute joy this car is to drive.
