Vehicle Detail

1980 AMC CONCORD Wagon The year 1980 was the year that Ronald Reagan was elected president. John Lennon was shot to death. Led Zeppelin announces their breakup due to the death of their drummer, John Bonham. "Who Shot J.R." episode aired. And that fake, Rosie Ruiz won the Boston Marathon, but was later exposed as a fraud and stripped of her award. I remember all of this stuff happening as a teenager. Yea, it sucks getting old, but man those were some good times. My car was built and sold in 1980 and now I think I'd like to sell it now. I bought this car, maybe 3-4 years ago. What attracted me was that it was an economical 4-cylinder engine (the proven, reliable 2.5L Iron Duke, no less), and it had a "Four-on-the-floor" 4-speed transmission. I thought that was the coolest! I also needed to haul kids and have some adequate cargo space at the same time. It had like 80,000 original miles. I also wanted to have something unusual and retro. Something that few other had driving around. Ok here's my description: 1. OVERALL: I'd be comfortable hopping in and driving it to California--no kidding. Fires right up, shifts good and is reliable. Tires are good--you'll likely get another 2-3 years out of them. It is practically manually everything (except steering--boy they sure overdid the power steering back in the 80s), Windows have cranks, adjustable door mirrors have manual toggles. I like manual stuff--I worked on this car myself and I love the simplicity. No AC but pull out either of the two air ventilation levers and you're flooded with cool outside air. Heat will run you outta there in the Winter. Car tracks down the road straight as expected. 2. ENGINE/DRIVETRAIN: As I'd said, 2.5 liter General Motors "Iron Duke" 4-cylinder (AMC didn't have their own 4-cylinder till 1982, I believe). The transmission is a 4-speed, on the floor. Clutch operates the transmission just fine, no grinding (unless you're "manual transmission-challenged). You will get some occasional oil leak spots from time to time. I diagnosed this minor leak as a rear main seal leak. It never leaked enough for me to justify crawling under and replacing the seal. I never felt the need to add oil between oil changes, so I'd call this leak minor. This car does not smoke out the tailpipe. The carburetor was bought brand-new two years ago. The engine/drive train is all stock, I believe. An electric, adjustable thermostatically-controlled radiatyor fan replaces the original mechanical cooling fan. I do have the original fan and mounting flange that'll go with the car. I've been running this electric fan for at least two years, and I am happy with it. 3. BRAKES: Brakes work great. I'd replace most everything back in the rear less than 3-4 Months ago. The front brakes are fine. I had recently disassembled and cleaned and repacked the front wheel bearings. Everything looked ok. Pads have plenty of life left. Next brake job (probably in another couple of years), I'd probably recommend replacing the rotors. This car shouldn't give you any brake problems anytime soon. Disc brakes up front and drums in the rear. I replaced many brake line components during the last year. 4. BODY: Original paint. With that said, it is in fine condition for 36 years. It holds a shine, especially when waxed twice per year, but it has it's imperfections. There are a few rust spots, primarily on the drivers-side doors. The most significant rust is both rear quarter panels all the way rearward nearest the bumpers. AMC proudly marketed Zebart rust protection for their vehicles during this time and it really helped. Those two particular areas, however has some rust issues with rust eating all the way through on one side. It doesn't jump out at you, so I never took the time to repair. The body looks pretty good from 10-15 feet. The hood needs some fine straightening or replacing because a couple of Months ago it popped up on me as I started down the road and the emergency catch didn't prevent it from coming up all the way. I've since lubed and fixed this problem and the catch works as designed, but it did warp up the hood a bit. A new owner will probably want to work the hood a bit more than I did. It does operate (open and close) the way it should now. The wheel well moldings had taken hits. Looks like some previous owner had difficulty backing out of their garage. It didn't concern me much, so I never tried to straighten them. All doors and the hatchback operate as expected. I had replaced the hatch struts shortly after I bought the car. All glass is in fine condition and windows row down ok. 5. SUSPENSION: Leaf springs in the rear. Nothing out of the ordinary on the suspension. 6. INTERIOR: The interior is pretty dang good for the year. All vinyl with very minimal tears. 98% good vinyl. All components work as designed except the rear defrost button. I never saw a need to trouble shoot it, so I didn't address it. I pulled out the stinky rear deck carpet and replaced it with vinyl "diamond-tread" mats there and on the back of the rear seat. Looks clean and doesn't hold spills. I pulled out the headliner to repair it and replace the fabric and was hypnotized by a tie-die pattern at the fabric store, so I bought it. It's not for everyone, I'd say but I think it fits the whole "aura" of the car and it totally rocks in my eyes. I'm trying to think of other things that someone would want to know about the car, but I'm drawing a blank. So, with that said, fire off any questions that you have and I'll answer to the best of my ability. Contact me through E-Bay's "Ask The Seller" option or you can call me at 8-one-2, 225 eighteen, 42. Hey fellas, This is maybe a $1000-1500 car. Do not expect perfection. It is reliable as the Sun coming up tomorrow morning, but it is far from a show car. Check your expectations. For what its worth, I would not sell a car to ANYONE with the intent of hiding something or trying to get over on someone. I'm an honest guy, and I'm looking for an honest buyer that'll appreciate this cool car. I'm not a dealer. I'm also not going to get rich on the sale of this car. I'll be upfront and honest with you and always tell the truth. I want you to feel good about the purchase of this car, just as I was when I bought it a few years ago. Ask me to go out and take you some specific pictures if needed so that you're satisfied prior to bidding. I'm located in Georgetown, Indiana, just 10 minutes from downtown Louisville, Kentucky. I'd be happy to pick you up at the airport if you'd like to fly in to drive the car home. Here's the terms, and I must be insistent on them: Winning bidder makes a $100 deposit with 24-hours of Auction End. Best option is PAYPAL. The remaining balance MUST NOT be paid via PAYPAL but can be paid with cash or a banker's check (postal certified check is cool) by 15 June 2016. I can hold the car for a bit and we can work this out after the auction, but I am unavailable to conduct any pickups from 20 June to July 4th. Winning bidder can pick up before or after that date span, but full payment must be made by 15 June 2016. I'VE GOT PLENTY OF MORE PICTURES COMING, FELLAS.
