Vehicle Detail
CAR IS LOCATED IN CHARLOTTE, NC AND HAS A CLEAN CLEAR TITLE IN MY NAME. You are bidding on one all original 194CI 6 CYLINDER TUXEDO BLACK/ RED 1963 Nova SS. RARE 3 SPEED!!! She has been repainted once in the original color. All numbers matching with respect to a vintage 5 lug swap from a 1965 Full-size Chevrolet. All body panels are original. I have had it as a fun daily driver, when the weather is nice, for over a year. I painted the engine bay and engine just so it would look better at local car shows. The interior was redone awhile back but shows very well for a driver. New carpet last year. Someone has swapped in a tachometer from a 63-64 Impala...replacing the clock in the original dash cluster. I got this out of Virginia and it had the spotlight already installed. The previous owner said that someone told him this was a FLOYD COUNTY Sheriff car back in the day...whether that is true or not I am not sure, but the spotlight is very old....and appears to have been installed very well and properly, unfortunately the bulb does not work but the handle works the light as it should. If you are looking at this, then you know this was a one year only car, as the 63 Nova was the only year an SS came with a 6 CYL. No V8 was offered in 1963 unless you knew someone and could have a very special order done. For those who want to argue that an SS never had a 6 CYL....please move along...maybe go educate yourself. SEE PHOTOS/VIDEO OF CAR DRIVING AT BOTTOM OF THIS LISTING. CLICK THE VIEW ALL BUTTON TO BE DIRECTED TO BIGGER AND BETTER QUALITY PHOTOS/VIDEO. The pictures at the bottom do not show up on a mobile device but the view all button is there. The car does have some rust areas, but for this vintage they are not as bad as most. No replacement panels, all factory panels. It has had a bump-up in the driver front(see photos), but tracks well with no evidence of pulling, misalignment, etc. I have installed the following new parts in the last year : GAS TANK, GAS FILLER HOSE, FUEL SENDING UNIT, BATTERY, FRONT WHEEL CYLINDERS, FRONT BRAKE HOSES, POINTS, CONDENSER, TEMPERATURE SENDING UNIT, PLUGS, CARBURETOR, BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER, DIMMER SWITCH, CARPET, DOOR SILL SCUFF PLATES. She runs and drives well. A new set of tires will make this ride alot better. Current tires are a little wobbly due to age. I usually stick around the neighborhood, but do take it up to speed sometimes. Ok, here are the details: NUMBERS: VIN: 30= 1963, 04= Nova 400 6 CYL, 37= 2 Door Coupe, N= Norwood, Ohio, 210287= Production Sequence starting at 100001. The concours judge confirmed that it was totally possible and correct(as he has seen a few) to see a certain part not be installed for quite some time during the build process....and even some 1963 models to be finished up in 1964...but sold as 1963 models. 5 LUG AXLE: BC927G, BC= 3.36, 9= September, 27= 27th, G= Detroit Gear Axle. DATE CODE: 175, 1= September, 7= 7th, 5= 1965CASTING NUMBER: 3833443N= 1965 Full Size. BODY: Overall it is in decent condition. Yes it has some rust...SEE PHOTOS. It has had a bump-up in the driver front fender and has a dent in passenger rear quarter. Filler over rear driver wheel well and passenger rear dogleg behind wheel. There is a small spot of rust through under driver rear tail light. I HAVE LOTS OF PHOTOS IN THE LINK..please use it to see all areas of the body. Paint shines up ok, not the best, as it has a very old respray in the original color. All glass is good and all windows operate as they should. The trunk is missing the outer lock assy, but opens up with a screwdriver as it should. The only area I repainted since I had it was the trunklid. The paint was very tired and it had some surface rust. I just wanted it to look a little better at the local car shows. Driver headlight bezel does not stay on while driving due to fender being bent a little from bump-up. Floors are mostly solid but do have a few holes(SEE PHOTOS). INTERIOR: Older interior restoration holding up very well. New carpet installed within the last year. Headliner has had a couple of seams split, so I sewed them up for now. Otherwise, the interior presents very well for a driver. Dome light lens is missing. ENGINE: Runs great!!! No leaks or smoking. Holds temperature and really cooks with the 3.36 rear end. Sounds nice as well. TRANSMISSION: Shifts and operates well, no issues. You do need to come to a complete stop before shifting into 1st gear though without grinding...but this is common knowledge for all stick shifts. Clutch feels great. ELECTRICAL: Everything works except fuel gauge (the sending unit is new, so I think it's just a bad ground wire?). Horn does not operate. Everything else works, even the light for the radio. The tachometer is not hooked up, it was not hooked up when I got it and I have not investigated this as I am not a pro at electrical stuff. New dimmer switch installed. I do not have keys for the ignition switch, but it does turn and operate anyway. I just never bothered to get a new switch...easy fix. I do not have keys for the doors either. CHASSIS: New front wheel cylinders and brake hoses and brake master cylinder. Car rides great except tires are old and should be replaced. I usually have just been driving around the neighborhood and to some local car shows...so I just never got around to replacing them. A new set of tires will make this thing ride very nice. No rattles or odd noises. Rear end is very responsive due to the higher 3.36 gear VS the original 3.08. WHAT WOULD I DO: This is a great candidate for a restoration, as it is all original except for the 5 lug swap, plus it is a rare 3 speed car. hard to find any 3 speeds left. You could also just continue enjoying it as it is. It has been very fun for me, as I had a 63 SS in college, so I have been re-living those times with this. I am thinning my herd, so the reason for selling. This thing gets TONS OF ATTENTION!!! I have tried to make a very extensive listing. I am a 100% positive feedback user for over 15 years. I expect the same level of professionalism from any interested buyers. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have.Buyer is responsible for all shipping costs and arrangements.
