Vehicle Detail

PRICE JUST LOWERED BY $1,000 for QUICK SALE... Up for sale is my rare 1967 Saab 2-stroke, oil injected model 96. I currently own three Saab's of this vintage (the others two are a 1973 Saab 96 V4 and 1970 Saab 95 V4) and I am selling this one to make room in the collection for another car that will need the garage space in late May. Last week this car was reviewed on BringaTrailer.com and prospective buyers may want to read the reviews there from other 2-stroke owners and enthusiasts. The photos posted were taken on April 20, 2016. This is the last full year for Saab selling the two stroke engine cars as they began later that year transitioning to the European Ford sourced V4 engine. The Saab 2-stroke 96 earned international racing notoriety when Erik Carlsson won the Monte Carlo Rally in 1962 and 1963 driving one. This Saab originated in California, then lived in Texas before coming to Virginia... all dry southern states and the reason for the lack of any real rust (except some minor surface rust in the engine bay- see photos). There was similar surface rust on the floors that I sanded and applied POR-15 to last year before having new carpet installed. The nice cream color exterior has some minor crazing in a couple of small spots, some evidence of re-spray in several areas but mostly overall has a beautiful sun baked patina that you couldn't re-create if you tried. I would personally leave it exactly as-is. For any new owner wanting to repaint the car, the only body issue is a small dent in the front passenger fender (see photo). A replacement fender, already primed, comes with the car. Most importantly, under the hood is a recently rebuilt 3-cylinder, 3-carburetor 2-stroke engine, similar to the one put in the prized high performance Monte Carlo models. I am not sure if this particular engine is original to the car but I believe it to be. The engine block# is 732045. The rebuild was done in 2014 by well known Saab 2-stroke engine builder David Baugher in Virginia. The car has less than 500 miles on it since the rebuild. Also, since this is one of Saab's later model 2-strokes it has the preferable oil induction pump and reservoir. This pump automatically feeds oil into the engine and eliminates the need to measure and add oil to the fuel tank with every fill-up. The previous owner and I have only used Red Line Racing 2-stroke oil which is light years ahead of the oils used back in 1967 and should lead to much longer engine life. The engine starts up, idles and runs great with that well known 2-stroker sound...and smell. The Free-wheel is operational and performs as it should. The fuel gauge, speedometer and (newer) oil temperature gauge are operational. There is no radio but it does have the radio-delete cover on the dash. The dash pad is weathered and taped in places- see dash photos. The on the column 4-speed transmission was also rebuilt in the past 500 miles and was done by Bud Clarke in California. Other work done to the car in the past 500 miles as per the previous owner: GT exhaust with XP Sporty chamberNew clutch and pressure plateNew clutch master and slave cylinderNew front disc brakes (rear brakes are drum)seats reupholsteredNew battery (2014)Nice aftermarket Saab wood steering wheel Last year I added the following: New generatorNew roof rackNew Coker wide-white tiresNew carpet inside the car and in the trunk New wheel well cover (wood as per original design- see photo) Also included: original owners manual, shop manual, extra spark plugs etc The glass is very good all around with the rubber seal for the front windshield and rear window in very good condition. Both front windows roll up and down as they should and both rear side windows push out as designed. The rubber window scrappers and trim on the door windows are brittle and need replacement but since this car is always garaged and never driven in rain I haven't bothered with them. Also- at present the horn and wipers are inoperable...fuses look OK so this may be a wiring issue. I'm not a mechanic and didn't want to start noodling around under the dash. All in all this is a superb 2-stroke driver that gets as much attention as any collector car I've ever owned. It would be an excellent candidate for an easy restoration to show quality or just keep it, drive it- and show it- as it sits. Guaranteed to get attention at the next car show or your local Cars & Coffee and an inexpensive entry level collector car that has lately been seeing a jump in values. Parts are still readily available from a host of domestic and international suppliers and there's a strong and loyal community of early Saab enthusiasts. This Saab is garaged in Earlysville, Virginia, just north of Charlottesville, Va... only a few miles from Charlottesville airport and 2 hours southwest of Washington D.C. Available for personal inspection by appointment. I am happy to assist with your shipper and will promptly answer all emailed questions through Ebay. I also have this Saab advertised locally and the listing will be pulled if the car is sold before this listing expires. Thanks for looking
