Vehicle Detail
For auction is a real sharp 1974 AMC Javelin in its final year of production. This car has been a lifelong project for an old timer who passed away, he did nice work and now someone else needs to finish it. Starts right up, runs and drives and stops well, sometimes it slips in 2nd gear. Has the large 360 motor in stock configuration without any modifications. All fluids and oils have been changed and refreshed. The body work was all done by a shop; they replaced some panels and rockers & were all done in the early 90s. Looks like a black lacquer finish and original red stripe styling from the 70's. Does have evidence of bondo on the body in places and is missing a few small window chrome pieces. The interior was redone with new carpeting and seats were upholstered in the 90's, but they are loose and need to be bolted down yet. and seatbelts re-attached. I was told some of the floor pans were reinforced under the carpeting. Some of the gauges don't work- like the fuel gauge, but lights all work. Has new tires and nice Rally wheels with chrome trim rings. The underbody does have corrosion and will need cleaning and degreasing, also needs a new muffler. The previous owner ran all new brake lines, added new fuel pump and more odds and ends to make the car more reliable. Overall a sharp project car for someone who appreciates the 70's cars. I have a clear and open title ready for you- come and be the owner of a nice 360 Javelin! Please ask any questions you may have, I try to describe the car as best as I can but some stuff may have been missed. Please ask, winner to pay $300 non-refundable deposit within 24 hrs and balance due before taking the car. Cash or bank wire is preferred, US buyers only. Thanks for looking! On Apr-02-16 at 09:27:11 PDT, seller added the following information: Questions answered: Yes, I have a spare original shifter assembly & handle with a good locking latch which comes with the car. It could be a slipping transmission from wear, or it could be a bad linkage. The previous owner took the whole shifter apart and didn't know how to reassemble, so it could be that adjustment. Worse case is it needs a new or rebuilt transmission- but maybe a bottle of Lucas could work as well? Not sure. The carburetor could also stand a rebuild as it is filthy dirty and old.On Apr-02-16 at 09:33:34 PDT, seller added the following information: **Added better pics today (4/2/16) please look at the end of the images. It was about 35 degrees but it started right up and ran.On Apr-02-16 at 14:37:02 PDT, seller added the following information: I added a link to a video of the 360 motor running- go onto Youtube.com and type in "1974 Javelin Coupe Running 360 motor" and the author is James Chochole. On Apr-03-16 at 12:48:49 PDT, seller added the following information: It is always something with old cars- went to start the Javelin today and have to push in the ignition bypass to kick it over. Not sure why all of a sudden, but it'll start right away once that bypass button is pushed. So, please bid accordingly; start is good, battery and cables are good but for some inexplicable reason- goofy bypass is now being finicky. On Apr-03-16 at 12:55:16 PDT, seller added the following information: Answer: the seatbelt lock-out system switch was being finicky, the seatbelt interlock system locks me out until I press the button. So, there is a way to bypass it but I won't mess with it now, the next owner can decide what to do with it. I have no idea why it started being a p.i.t.a now.
