Vehicle Detail
I recently purchased this nice little BMW. Over the years I've purchased classic cars like these to restore to to a concourse level. It was my intention to do just that with this car. So you ask why am I selling? I purchased the car in January, made the payment and was having the car shipped to me. While waiting for the car to be delivered, I fell down a flight of stairs injuring my back and re injuring a shoulder that I had surgery on. Being a mechanical engineer & journeyman machinist I WAS planning to work fast and furious on the car restoring it to enjoy this summer. Since my accident, I frankly haven't felt like doing much of anything let alone work on a car. The snow is now gone and boating season starts in a couple of weeks. That said, this little gem must go as I'm out of time. Since I purchased the car I've only driven it around the local airport. It has always started 100% of the time and seems to drive as a 1973 should. I feel its a great candidate for the guy who wants to restore a bmw 2002 to absolute perfection or just drive it and have fun as is. At the bottom you will find the write-up when I purchased it indicated by the >>. I will assist with shipping if I can. I am however traveling from April 1-10 but can help either before or after those dates. Thanks for looking >>This is a beautifully maintained and largely unmolested example of an early BMW 2002. >>One Family owned since new, and driven less than 2000 miles a year. >>The car’s history and condition are consistent with that being the original and true mileage. >>BMW's famous 2.0 liter drive train is original to the car, and performs great. Starts fine both when cold and warm, no excessive smoke is seen at startup and the car runs and shifts as a low mileage unit should. >>The paint is the original color and shines very vividly after having been buffed and compounded in its Verona Red, in bright contrast with the classy and stylish black leather bucket seats and interior that also >>shows very well. A white headliner makes the interior feel even more open and spacious, again a nice contrast. All original stickers are present under the hood and on the inner fender. >>These vehicles are largely considered among the best driving cars of their time and have a cult following, partially inherited on the track, where even today it’s one of the most sought after classic racing cars to build on. That is why it’s rare to find an all original vehicle that has not been modified irreversibly for track use. >>The option list continues with an automatic transmission with its factory console and floor shifter, power disk brakes and above all, original air conditioning! >>Lastly even the original radio still works without any cracking sounds, and considering the age of the head unit and the speakers, actually sounds pretty good too. >>Don’t miss out on the chance to own an unrestored and unmolested, great driving 2002 before they become another one of those cars that shoots to $50k and you think “I should have bought it when it was inexpensive!”. This car looks great in person as evident from the spectacular pictures and I encourage you to come check it out, you won't be disappointed. Drive it >>home or I can help arrange shipping it to you.>>On Jan-18-16 at 08:04:38 PST, seller added the following information: >>EDIT: >>I am getting a LOT of questions on the history and condition of the car so I'll add here what everyone seems to ask for: >>Backstory: This car was owned by a gentleman that recently passed, his "children" do not want to keep the car and have asked me to help sell it to a good home. I am a professional in the field and the car is stored at the classic car dealership I work at, but it's not part of our regular operation: this is done to keep the cost of the car low, and help out the family (whom is >>friends with our president) to move on. The car was regularly driven weather permitting, it is currently inspected and registered. >>Pictures of the undercarriage: ask me via message as ebay won't let me link them here >>Rust: the undercarriage shows very well, there are two credit card sized holes on the outer corners of both front foot wells (where I guess the moisture from wet boots would collect and work it's magic). The rest is solid, including the rocker panels and the hump for the spare tire. The frame rails and the rest of the floor as well don't show any issues. There is sweating of oil >from the engine oil drain plug, enough to get it dirty but no enough to actually leak. >>What would I do before using the car: a regular service to set a "zero" point to start my own regular maintenance schedule (think $250?). Have the floor boards patched and sealed (think $500?). Then I would just enjoy this "time capsule".
