Vehicle Detail

Available for sale is a freshly restored and desirably optioned 1980 Camaro Z28. This car has just had a comprehensive frame off / ground up restoration which was completed in October of 2015. During the restoration, concentration was focused on using as many OEM GM parts as possible...many of which were NOS parts still in their original boxes. These NOS parts include, but are not limited to suspension bushings, rubber body mounts, exhaust manifolds, exterior lights, interior decor, and the best of all, an NOS dash pad!! The car is painted in it's original eye-catching, head turning rare paint code 79, Red-Orange. The Red-Orange Z28 was the cover car for Chevrolet's sales brochure, and was dubbed by Chevrolet "The Hugger". The paint on this car is absolutely stunning, and this car gets MAJOR attention everywhere it goes. Take one look at this car in person and you’ll see why…it’s impossible to take your eyes from it…stunning is an understatement! This car is only 1 of 8% of all 4 speed cars made in 1980 and to add to the rarity, it is only 1 of 2.8% of all Camaros painted Red-Orange. So exactly how rare does it make this car? The percentages mentioned are based on ALL Camaros produced. Of those cars made, how many were actually Z28’s with T-Tops, a 4 speed trans. and A/C? One can only imagine that the number of Z28’s made in this color, with these options was EXTREMELY low. Everything on this car works as it should, and exactly as it did when it left the factory 36 years ago, right down to the working air induction hood flapper. During the restoration, even the smallest details were addressed, like ensuring the car has the correct C and D coded keys, and ensuring that the oval key unlocks the doors, trunk, and glove box…small detail? Yes, but one often overlooked. Sit behind the wheel and immediately see the beautifully restored 1970 style gauge cluster. The gauges all work like they should, including the clock, (which incidentally, keeps great time). The superb heat, the ice cold A/C, electric heated rear window defogger, and AM/FM Stereo Cassette player all function perfectly. The mileage shown on the odometer reflects the true mileage this car has incurred since its completed resto. There is a picture which shows the mileage at 00000.4 -- this was the day the restoration was called complete, and the car began it's life on the road again. The mileage may increase slightly up to the point the car finds the right buyer, at which point the car will remain parked in a climate controlled garage until the new owner picks it up. Onto the rest of the car…. THE BODY: The body of the car including the hood, front fenders, doors, rear 1/4 panels, and lower taillights pan (gravel pan) are all 100% solid sheet metal. No bondo, no body filler, etc…just rust free solid steel!! The same applies for the underside of the car. This car had absolutely ZERO rust on the under-side before undergoing it’s restoration…making it obvious this car has never seen snow and salt. The floor pans, trunk pan, frame rails, etc…also all rust free. This car had all the markings and indications of having been an original southwest desert car. Although I can not substantiate this, the car's pre-restoration condition indicated it must have existed in a very dry climate. The body lines are all arrow straight, and panel alignment is spot on. While you’re looking at the body lines and alignment, take a close look at the rear spoiler alignment…again alignment is dead on which shows what great attention was paid to detail during the restoration. All 4 door hinges were removed and completely rebuilt with new pins and bushings. In addition, both LH and RH upper hinge detent rollers and pins were also replaced. This is a detail always overlooked in restorations...but not here. These doors will remain securely in the open position (both half open and full open) with the nose pointed up a grade...just like when new. All of the outside lighting lenses have been replaced with new including new tail light lenses, side marker lenses, and NOS front turn signal lenses, apparent by the chrome bullet bar on the face. No detail too small to be overlooked. THE DRIVETRAIN / SUSPENSION: The drivetrain is the ORIGINAL NUMBERS MATCHING drivetrain the car was manufactured with, which can be verified by the FACTORY V.I.N. stamping on both the engine block and Borg Warner ST-10 transmission case. The exhaust was upgraded to the 1970 Z28 style exhaust, with true dual 2.5” pipes and a free flowing transverse mounted muffler which exit to dual 2.5” tail pipes…this car’s low throaty rumble sounds awesome. The exhaust manifolds installed were another of the GM NOS parts installed during the restoration (RH 346248 and LH 361863). The car also comes with a new steel 21 gallon fuel tank and sending unit. On a recent 500 mile round trip, this car averaged just a little over 17MPG on the highway, which is testimony to how well this car performs. The cars suspension components were replaced or restored as needed during the restoration as well including new front and rear springs, new upper and lower ball joints, NOS GM upper/lower control arm bushings, GM NOS rubber body mount bushings, NOS rubber rear spring bushings, and NOS sway bar bushings. All 1980 Z28’s came with the F41 Performance Suspension which greatly increases this car’s handling capabilities. Whether driving in town or down the highway at 70mph, it handles the road like it did when new.!! THE INTERIOR: The interior of this car looks and smells like new. Earlier I mentioned the use of NOS parts during the restoration, and here is an example of a major one…the dash pad. Yes, the dash pad is a brand new GM NOS part! Above I mentioned the car also has a set of professionally restored 1970 style gauges…these truly compliment the NOS dash pad and restored gauge bezel. All of the A/C vents and ducts were restored with new seals. All dash deflectors (vents) are tight both left to right, as well as up/down…just like new! The headliner is 100% new, and the new rear package tray was custom made and vinyl covered to match the interior more closely than the original painted cardboard GM used. Again, it is very obvious that no details were overlooked. Speaking of details, look at the picture of the Heat – A/C Controller…notice anything you NEVER see anywhere else? Look at the BLUE to WHITE to RED color bar! Look at other cars…NONE have the RED….they all fade to white. This one looks like it was installed from the factory yesterday!! Absolutely amazing. (**Close-up picture of controller added on 03/19/2016 -- See photo #11 below) During the restoration, great care was taken to ensure everything was done to factory specs, using all available GM manuals including the 1980 Camaro Factory Assembly Manual, the Factory 1980 GM Service Manual, and the 1980 Fisher Body Service Manual. If you would like to speak to me regarding this car, or would like to schedule a time to inspect it in person, please email me via Ebay requesting my contact info, and I will send you my phone number in the reply. Thank you! I will also be including with the sale of this car a set of beautiful GM Fisher T-Top storage bags, a set of restored GM Accessory T-Top locks with 2 matching keys, (see picture near the bottom to see lock installed), and a full compliment of original owners and factory service manuals. Pictures have been included below. This car is as NICE and as COMPLETE as they come!!! LOOK AT THE PICTURES BELOW! I believe the pictures will tell the entire story...but YOU be the judge, and decide if this gorgeous Z28 is right for you! Need additional pictures of anything or simply have a question? Just ask! I return all emails and calls promptly. NOTE: The Last 8 pictures were taken in the early morning of 03/18/2016 to highlight the beauty of the paint. In the last picture of the deck lid, it's almost impossible to tell where the reflection of the tree branches off of deck lid ends, and the reflection of those same branches off of the glass begins. Normal 0 MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 PLEASE ask any and all questions you may have before purchasing.
