Vehicle Detail
If you are reading this, chances are you are already familiar with the legendary Mercedes w123 chassis automobiles produced from 1978 to 1985. Some believe these were the last “real” Mercedes, built in part by hand, seemingly without regard for cost, only for quality and durability. The sedans and wagons are still used in some countries as taxis, and are remembered fondly as such in many others. Their timeless good looks reflect the influence of Paul Bracq, and their bulletproof engineering was simply what the brand represented. The elegant top of the line turbodiesel coupe was only produced for four years, and only for the North American market. Just 8,007 were made, making it quite a rare car. This beautiful white over blue leather 1983 300CD Turbodiesel has just 142,600 original miles, and it is in remarkable condition. With the exception of the cruise control and the fuel gauge, everything is in proper working order. This was a one-owner car until last fall when I bought it, and I have driven it fewer than 1,000 miles since. While I have had it, I have attended to the things listed below, mostly tune-up related. It was always garaged and it still is. The dealer stamped service book comes with the car, along with the original window sticker and the other manuals. The original owner had all service done at the dealer throughout the car’s life, and kept current with everything the car needed. The car is truly a time capsule. The original tool kit is in the trunk, along of course with the jack and spare. The body is in very straight condition, with only the expected small blemishes from 33 years of gentle use. The car has never been in an accident and no bodywork whatsoever has been done. The paint (MB color code 737 Klassicheweite) is 100% original and still holds its shine beautifully. There is no rust. All the glass is original. The interior is 100% original leather, MB color code 252 Blau, and is in great condition. I had a new OEM driver’s seat pad installed and the springs restored. The work was performed by Autoweave of Denver. The original leather covers were removed and replaced, and now the seat feels right. The carpets are in fine condition, the door cards are excellent, and rest of the interior, including the wood, the dashboard, the headliner, etc., is in equally fine condition. A set of aftermarket protective carpets is included. The radio, electric antenna, electric sunroof, instrument lights, signals, head and fog lights, interior lights, horn, windshield wipers and washers all work. All the gauges work except the fuel gauge, which is not reliable. The trip odometer works fine though, so it is a viable substitute. The vacuum system is completely operational, meaning the door, trunk, and fuel port locks, HVAC actuators, transmission shift modulation, and engine shut-off are all operational. The AC components are modern (R-134a) and it blows cold. The car has a new Mercedes Benz battery, a new Bosch alternator, and a Diehard battery maintainer (which I installed). There is also an electric block heater. Mechanically the car is in tip-top condition. The engine has great power, does not smoke, and the transmission shifts exactly as designed. It starts cold, hot, or in-between immediately. There are no drips from anywhere. The valves are adjusted, the air, fuel, and oil filters are new, and the oil is changed (Mobil-1 Turbo Diesel Truck synthetic). The car is emissions compliant until November 2017. The suspension is tight and lively, and the steering and brakes are correct. I would not hesitate to drive this car across the country and back at a moments notice. It is completely ready to get in and go. If you are local to the Denver area and would like to view the car, or if you have any questions about the car, please contact me using the “Ask a question” link found below, and I will answer promptly. I can provide additional photos upon request. I am happy to pick the winning bidder up at the Denver airport if that helps, or assist with shipping if I am able. All shipping charges are the buyer’s responsibility. Payment is to be cashier’s check (during banking hours), cash, or wire transfer to my bank only. I have a clear Colorado title for the car. Please be serious about purchasing the car before you place a bid. Any auction winner who does not honor their bid will not only receive negative feedback, but will also be reported to eBay (they will mark your account for their own blacklisting purposes). Please get all your affairs in order before bidding. I'm serious and honest in my intention to sell. Please be the same to buy. That being said, this Mercedes is being sold as-is, where-is, with no warranties of any kind, expressed or implied, including that of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose. Please ask all questions prior to bidding. Thank you for your interest, and good luck!
