Vehicle Detail
1955 Dodge Royal270 Cubic Inch Red Ram V8Automatic Transmission with Shifter on Dash A brief overview of the whole story (read below)A beautiful house find in Upstate New York, where it sat in a garage for about 5 years. Vehicle was restored by previous owner and was used in many parades. Engine was rebuilt and runs beautifully. New points and exhaust recently added. Body seems to be in good shape with friends of mine who are into cars saying that it needs some minor body work on the rockers near the rear wheels. Paint is also not perfect as it looks as though a cat walked across the hood and roof many years ago and those spots surface rusted (doesn't show up in pictures. Interior is good with the exception of the head liner where mice chewed a hole in it while in storage for 5 years. Chrome is not perfect with pitting on front passenger head light surround. I cleaned up the rest of the chrome with water and aluminum foil trick. I bought the car by chance about 1 and a half years ago when I was buying a house. The owner of the car was supposed to move the car off the property but didn't, so I made an offer on the car to keep the closing of the house from being slowed down (That owner was the widow of the man who owned the car). The previous owner developed dimensia, so the car probably sat in the garage for about 5 years. I had a friend help me get the car going, it needed new "points" (I'm no car guy) and muffler. Mice had made a nice nest in the old muffler and chewed a whole in the head liner (still a hole in head liner). Other than those two things, the car cleaned up nicely. Prior to me getting the vehicle, the previous owner had retired and had the car restored. I think everything is original, but please don't quote me on that. The engine, a Red Ram V8 270 cubic inch, was rebuilt and runs beautifully. People who knew the previous owner and are car collectors themselves wanted to buy just the engine to put into their cars. Last summer (2014), I drove the car with my family quite a bit and had a great time. After storing the car for the winter when I got the car out and took it for a test drive, I noticed that the brake pedal felt spongy. So after that, I parked the car in my garage, meaning to check it out or having help fixing (again, I'm no car guy), but just never got around to it (too busy). The car was inspected last year and of course passed and is still registered and insured. The car has always been garage kept to my knowledge. That is all I know about the history of car. According to friends that are car guys, there is minor body work that needs to be done near the rear of the rockers next to the wheel well. The speedometer and odometer don't work, and the head liner has a hole in it. As I mentioned before, the brakes didn't feel the same as they did the year before (they still stopped me), but I'm not going to take any chances with my family as I'm not comfortable to diagnose/fix brakes. On Nov-23-15 at 03:13:06 PST, seller added the following information: Here are some additional responses to questions that were asked about the car: Good morning XXXXXXXX, You must have really good eyes, there are 4 small dents on the rear bumper that I have never noticed. As far as the heater goes, I don't know if it works as I have only driven it during the summer. Of the 5 gauges: amps, gas, speedometer, oil and temp, I know the amps and gas seem to work, the speedometer doesn't work, and I'm not sure about the oil or temp gauges as I have never even taken the time to look at them as I'm driving or just sitting there. I've never had it overheat on me so I just never bothered to look. If you would like I can start it up later today and see what I can figure out. Tires are also good with plenty of tread above the quarter test, no dry rot or anything like that, otherwise I would not have driven the car. As far as the price, I'm not looking to sell it outside of ebay, but thank you for asking. I hope I answered all of your questions, Dave Continued answer I started it up this evening and the oil and temp gauges both seem to work. I don't recall if I mentioned it already, but the odometer is part of the speedometer and that doesn't work either. Good news however, both the blower and defrost blower work. I hear and feel air moving when the knobs are turned. There are two other levers that don't currently move/adjust. One is for adjusting for cooler or warm air and the other is the vent opener that opens the vent at the top of the hood right in front of the windshield. Both feel like they could work with some TLC, but I'm not going to take a chance of breaking the levers. I'll let a professional like yourself get those functioning.
