I bought this car in the Summer of 2013 from a Alfa BB member in Southern California – who owned the car for a short time after acquiring it out of Arizona (I still have a copy of the prior Arizona title). I had the highly respected Santo’s Italian Car Service in Los Angeles do the pre-purchase inspection – and found the car to be dry and very solid. There was some maintenance that was needed, and before having the car shipped to me in Chicago, I had Santo’s do the following (receipt available):• Replace slave cylinder and bleed brake system• Replace drive shaft support • Replace transmission mount• Replace tail pipe• Replace motor mounts• Complete front end rebuild• Replace fan shroud• Replace front brakes (rotors and pads)• Valve adjustment• Four new Falken tires! The car had around 100K on it when I acquired it, and now has just under 102K miles on the clock. I really should drive this more!Since I got her to Chicago – she's only been driven on dry days and has always been garage stored. I’ve also had the following maintenance done by local Alfa specialist Italia Automobili and The Last Detail:• New battery• Replace rear main seal (Last Detail)• Replace front transmission seal (Last Detail)• Replace oil pan gasket (Last Detail)• Replace drivers floor (front and back) with NOS OEM steel floor piece / painted to match (Last Detail)• Proper steel replacement of soft spot on passenger floor (Last Detail)• Full wet sand and buff (Last Detail)• Replace center cross-member (Italia)• Replace full exhaust system (Italia)• Replace thermostatic actuator (Italia)• Compression test shows 175 psi+ in all cylinders (Italia)I also replaced the interior door panels (Centerline) and added new carpet floor mats (Centerline). This is a really nice clean and dry S2 kamm tail spider. It’s by no means a show car, but is very presentable and gets positive comments whenever I drive it. It also runs great! Any issues (other than noted below) were always fixed by a specialist. It does have a few issues that I chose not to address – and I don’t believe they need to be addressed to enjoy the car as a nice driver:• Older repaint wasn’t a high dollar job. From five feet the car looks very good, but upon closer inspection there are some blistering spots, some overspray, and a couple paint chips. • There is a rust spot the size of a baseball on the front valence (under the front bumper). You can't see this unless you crawl under the car. There is also some very minor bubbling on the drivers side front fender behind the wheel towards the bottom of the panel. This has been present for a couple years and has not progressed - but will probably need to be addressed at some point. • Cracked dash – as seen in the pics.• Windshield wipers sometimes need coaxing to start – probably an easy wire issue (I replaced the switch myself) – but I never drive it when it rains so haven’t bothered to track this down.• The notorious 2nd gear crunch – not bad and it doesn’t do it every time (I usually double-clutch going into 2nd gear). It does drip some oil - but not any worse than any other similar vintage Spider I've seen. The interior is in very good condition. The seats were recovered before I acquired her, and they’re holding up well. As noted – I replaced the door panels. The floors have what I believe to be original rubber mat / covers (with logo on drivers side) – also in good condition (the drivers side mat is cracked but it’s minor). New rear “cape” (Centerline) – but other rear interior panels are original and should probably be replaced. Drivers side has a racing seatbelt – though I have never tracked it. The car has what I believe to be an original AM/FM radio – that works! All lights and gauges work, as they should. The top is in good condition – rear window is clear but has a mark from folding (I hardly ever drive with the top up). The seal between the top and windshield frame should be replaced (it’s noisy at 70 MPH).The underside of the car is very clean - no obvious corrosion problems (other than noted above). All steel repair work (floor) was done to a very high professional standard - painted to match adjacent metal. The works was done by one of the Midwest's best collector car specialists (The Last Detail).I’m really conflicted about selling this car, and won’t unless I get the right price. I believe an S2 Spider is the biggest absolute bargain in European classic cars right now – and eventually these will follow the Duetto’s in going up in price! If I had a bigger garage – I’d keep it. The plan is to replace this with another classic – very likely another Alfa!
