Vehicle Detail

ONE BRAKE LINE MUST BE REPAIRED TO DRIVE THIS CAR! To buy this car and take it away, you will need to tow or transport it. One brake line just failed this week, so only 2 wheels are now braked. I studied what needs to be done, and saw it makes sense to change both rear lines at the same time ($250 for parts on-line). Next, I realized from on-line discussions that it makes sense to change all 5 pipes (3 fuel, 2 brake) to the rear at the same time. Now that comes to $650 altogether for parts. The Accord ran just great till this happened. I would fix it myself if I needed the car, but I don't want to spend $650 on brake lines (plus the work) to make a $1,000 car worth $2,000. If it weren't for the fact I also have a 2000 Odyssey that's working so well, then I would have done this work myself. This car (I'm the original owner) has been very well maintained. I had no intention of giving it up so soon (it so happens I just ---belatedly--renewed the registration! This situation was very unexpected... it has a full tank of gas!)... 3 tires are near new (less than 5,000 miles). The rear brake shoes are only 1/4 worn, and the front rotors and pads were new 17,500 miles ago. All service has been done on schedule, including coolant, brake fluid, and spark plug replacement. The timing belt and water pump were changed at 100,000 miles. Nothing else ever failed, except the back right door button now has to be clicked manually. It's never been in a flood. There's never been a water leak. All the lights, signals, and dashboard items work fine (there's no cassette player BTW). This car has been extremely reliable... it never failed to start, and never burned oil (I ran it in nicely with no hard braking or acceleration and under 50mph for the first 1,000 miles). No one has ever smoked in this car; it came well-equipped, and even has the spoiler fin on the back and mudflaps. It would be a shame for a car like this to not fix the brakes and get a few more years of good service out of it. On Oct-14-15 at 11:18:41 PDT, seller added the following information: [I've been trying to post this as a response to a question, but it never "takes": Vehicle condition: tangkickpouch sent a message about Honda : Accord SE Sedan 4-Door #301763457370 Have you found anything else to report underneath the car?] Yes, while searching on line, I found (from CarComplaints) about an area to look for where these cars are vulnerable. So I managed to check underneath quite thoroughly... and I found it. It's in the sub frame to the right front. Apparently, water can drip from the air conditioning and end up corroding this spot. This is the only immediately serious rust I could find (a 1 inch square hole). In each case, the owner did *not* need to do a repair.
