acer-palmatum Store 1981 Honda CBX, 2.8 Miles, Original, Stored New, Never Started 1981 Honda CBX, 2.8 Miles, Stored New, Never Started I have been a motorcycle rider for over 50 years and have owned and ridden a wide range of bikes. I keep coming back to the CBX and owned three at one time, including this one. I didn’t imagine I would ever reach a point where I didn’t own at least one. As a collector I like my bikes to be absolutely box-stock, in original condition, and well maintained. I’m selling this because I’m getting on in years (I just turned 77) and am having trouble with my hip and my knee. I’ve reluctantly come to the realization that I’m just not going to be able to handle the bike physically. If you’ve never had the pleasure of riding one of these, it is silky smooth and sounds like a small Ferrari. It is not a “crotch-rocket” or a Hog or Hog copy. Soichiro Honda wanted a motorcycle engine that would out-Ferrari Enzo Ferrari. Six cylinders, six carbs, four valves per cylinder, DOHC and HONDA reliability. This is a nice collectible piece of art that you can ride. It is hard to find one in this condition—completely new. We bought this from a fellow in eastern Oregon. This is not, and was never, a ‘school bike’. The previous owner purchased it from a dealer and here is what he told us about it: “This bike is absolutely as new. I see no indications on screws, bolts, fasteners that would indicate that this magnificent engine was ever apart. This bike was bought new and stored. There are 2.8 (two point eight!) original miles on the odometer. This six cylinder wonder bike has been properly stored (with hydraulics periodically serviced) since new. A little oil was put into the cylinders for protection. It has not been started since leaving the factory; it has never been ridden (except in Japan by the factory set-up employee). The nubs are still on the tires. Therefore there are absolutely no marks on the disk brakes, the interior of the wheel fenders have no marks or dirt, the interior of the exhaust pipes are clean, the interior of the gas tank looks new. Lying on the ground and looking at the underside of the bike you see that there are no marks on anything….Additionally it has small scratches from storage on front and rear fenders.” I purchased the bike without accessories and I bought the fairing, lowers, and saddlebags from eBay and from internet sellers. Some of these parts have marks in the paint and we have provided photographs of them, as well as the small scratches mentioned in the quote above. The bike has a clear Oregon Title, but was never registered and therefore has no license plate. 5 years ago we moved to Yuma, Arizona, where we are now. The bike is here, stored in my heated, air conditioned shop, as it was in our previous residence in Oregon. A few months ago I noticed a slight bubbling in the chrome finish on 3 of the 4 saddlebag latches. I acquired 3 new NOS Honda latches and will send those along with the bike. In addition, I have a new battery (dry charged with acid in a separate container, you fill it) and a set of new spark plugs. In our moves, the original 1981 manual and tools were misplaced and I do not have them. If I ever find them, I will send them to the buyer. I do include a 1982 Owners Manual in very, very good condition. All these extras will be packed in the saddlebags. I would prefer to meet the new owner and go over the bike with them here in Yuma, AZ. But if that is not possible, we will cooperate with any shipper. It is up to the buyer to choose the shipper and pay for the shipping. In the past I used DAS to ship a motorcycle and, without saying any more, I wouldn’t use them again. I’m going to list this for sale locally so I reserve the right to end the auction early if it sells. I haven’t started the bike and therefore I haven’t run it. I believe it is exactly as I have represented it. I have sold a number of cars and motorcycle on eBay and the buyers have all been very pleased. However I want to state that there is no warranty expressed or implied. Bidders with less than 5 feedback, greater than 2% negative feedback, or new to eBay within 2 months must contact me before bidding or their bid will be canceled. We will not ship to any countries other than the USA and Canada. The buyer is responsible for picking it up or having it shipped. We’ll work with the shipping company to ship it. I would much prefer a buyer meet me in person and look the bike over. But if that isn’t possible we will work with whatever shipping arrangements the buyer selects. We require the winning bidder to pay us a $500 deposit via PayPal within 24 hours of the close of the auction. Balance is required by certified check within 6 days unless other arrangements are mutually agreed to. Failure to pay as we require will result in us offering the item to the next highest bidder or re-listing the item. If you have purchased more than one item from us we are happy to combine shipping to save you money. In that case please wait for an invoice from us to tell you the total shipping cost before you make payment. Please contact us within 24 hours of buying a Buy It Now item or winning an Auction to let us know when you will make payment and pay us using PayPal unless we have mutually agreed to another payment method. We expect full payment within 4 days of the close of the buying transaction unless you make other arrangements with us. Failure to pay as we require will result in us offering the item to the next highest bidder or re-listing the item. We try to ship within 2 days of receiving payment. We like to receive things we buy quickly and know that you do too. Once in a while something might delay shipment by a day or two. We'll keep you informed if there is a significant delay. We ship via FedEx or USPS and include delivery confirmation and insurance on all items. If you prefer some other shipping method we will try to accommodate your wishes. Auctiva charges a little less than USPS for insurance if the item is over $50 and allows us to insure shipments going outside the US. Auctiva's insurance charge is not included in the Postage shown when you check on the tracking number. We don't make money on the shipping fees. We usually use PayPal labels and send you an email indicating the date and tracking number, which then also appears in your eBay "Items Won" section. If this is a Local Pickup Item we will work with the buyer to facilitate loading the item(s) and, depending on the destination, we will try to cooperate on moving the item closer to the Buyer's location. We work hard to retain our 100% positive feedback rating and have always satisfied our buyers. You can bid with confidence on our auctions. If anyone has a problem with any item purchased from us, please contact us and we will work with you to resolve it. Please contact us right away to see if we can find a way to satisfy you if you don't feel you can leave us positive feedback and 5 stars on all the Detailed Seller Ratings. We believe in eBay's feedback system and expect our buyers to participate in the system by leaving positive feedback at the close of a successful transaction as we will for them. We were in business for many years and have pursued many hobbies. Now it is time to simplify life and pass the accumulation of manufacturing tools, race car parts, motorcycle parts, WWII collectibles, bicycle grips, and other interesting or surplus items on to new owners. Use eBay's "Ask Seller A Question" link and we'll get back to you in a timely fashion. But please don't ask us a question requiring an hour of research for an inexpensive item. Also, please don't wait until the last minute to email your question.
