Vehicle Detail

For sale: 1972 Chevrolet Suburban 3 door Carryall original paint survivor, same owner from fall 1972 till spring 2015 when I purchased the truck. I have the original window sticker, warranty card, inspection sheet, key blanks, etc. The older gentleman I got the truck from purchased it from a leasing company in 1972 with a couple thousand miles on it, and he and his family used it for camping and fishing trips. He owned a service station, so the rig was well maintained and cared for over the years. It's a solid, honest, straight old truck with original 350 4bbl, Turbohydramatic trans and factory 4.11 gears. Great candidate for a full restoration, or use as is for those runs to Home Depot, Cars N Coffee or cruise night at the Steak and Shake. Exterior: Original red paint still holds a shine, but it's faded and thin in several places. Good enough for casual cruising, but would need repaint for show duty. Typical dings and minor dents from use over the years. Has some lower body rust as shown in pics, but no the sitting-at-the-bottom-of-the-lake rot seen so often in these era trucks. We only get 10 inches of annual moisture here in the land of the sagebrush and prickly pear cactus, and sand, not salt is used on the roads. We just don't see major rot here. Glass is good and windshield is new. Exterior chrome is only fair, pretty dinged all around and holes drilled with screws holding some of the lower body moldings on. Extra holes drilled for camper mirrors in both doors. Overall a great driver quality rig and gets plenty of comments and thumbs up wherever I go in it. Interior: Good original condition, front seat is torn under the blanket cover and rear seat is in good condition. I purchased a roll of NOS cloth custom insert fabric from SMS upholstery that is correct for this truck. Enough NOS insert fabric is included to do both seats. Original floor mat in good shape other than a tear or two. Tear in original dashpad. Most everything works as far as I can tell including horn, wipers, heater, etc. Wiper switch has been replaced with aftermarket and aftermarket radio turns on but no sound. A couple of the headliner panels are warped and have small cracks. Mechanical: Starts, runs, and drives out fine. When I got the truck I took it to a professional mechanic to be checked over and any major repairs done. Fuel tank and sending unit were replaced with new. Steering box was replaced with a rebuilt unit. No noticeable smoke, noises or issues, other than a puff at startup, probably valve seals. There are a few spots under truck if left overnight, like most vintage trucks, with one very noticeable trans fluid leak. Haven't really looked into it, just been adding trans fluid occasionally. I put a set of 15 x 8 ralley wheels and 235/75 tires off one of my other trucks on it and they look sharp.Tires are in excellent condition. I will include the original steel wheels and hubcaps with the truck if desired.I've driven it to lunch and work several times and to a couple of shows and cruise nights, probably a total of about 150 miles, and it seems tight, nice and a solid driver. Does need shocks for sure, and will need a tuneup(misses occasionally), possibly a carb rebuild, (choke not working right, cold blooded) and exhaust. It will need all the usual hoses, belts etc. Some moderate gear whine at higher speeds from the rear end, which is typical of low geared rear ends. This is not a restored truck, but a solid original platform to start from. Pricing/Misc: I've been watching these rigs for awhile, and similar trucks have sold on Ebay this year for $9k and $13k. My reserve is under $5500 for quick sale. You are welcome and encouraged to personally inspect the truck prior to bidding. I'm not a dealer, I don't do this for a living, I'm an enthusiast. If you'd like any detailed photos of a specific area of the truck, just ask! I have many photos of it but will be glad to take more if needed. Please ask any questions you like before bidding. Keep in mind this is an older vehicle and older vehicles need work. If you haven't messed around with vintage cars/trucks, adjust your expectations accordingly. I got a good deal on this rig and you will too. Transport is readily available and probably cheaper than fixing major rot on a Midwest or East Coast truck. Title is open and clear and in my name, ready for you to sign as purchaser. After the sale, I can store the truck outside for up to 30 days free, after that $100 per month storage will be due. Buyer should get insurance on the vehicle as soon as payment is made, as I will cancel mine at that time. Keep in mind that with all cars and trucks, THEY LOOK BETTER IN PICTURES THAN IN PERSON. This is not a minty creampuff, just a solid truck to drive while you restore and IT IS NOT PERFECT BY ANY MEANS.
