Vehicle Detail
Up for sale is our '68 Mustang convertible. This was our son's summer car in high school, through college, and moved with him to Las Vegas 7 years ago where for 3 years it served him well as his daily driver. Two years ago we drove it back across the country, and it's been setting, covered, in my enclosed car trailer since. His life has changed, with a new family and career, and the Mustang no longer fits. It doesn't "fit" our collection of street rods and customs either, so to help he and his new family, we're offering it for sale. He purchased the car in 1995, a junior in high school, from a good friend of mine who has an auto recycling business in Kalamazoo MI. It had been wrecked after a complete restoration, with new floor pans, quarter panels, interior, top, chrome, GT badging, and a then new 5.0/AOD drivetrain with a Ford Motorsports wiring harness. The car was hit over the left front wheel, collapsing the suspension on that side and damaging left front fender, inner structure, hood, grill and bumper. My friend was going to build if for himself and had the inner structure professionally straightened and replaced as needed. then lost interest in the project and sold it to us. The rockers and sub-rails were, and are, solid. The door alignment was good, no body sag or issues common to these early Mustangs. The serial number indicates the car originally was a 302 2bbl. car with automatic. It still has the original 8" rear, the front had been upgraded to disk brakes. We replaced the left front fender, hood, grill, bumper, some miscellaneous trim parts, repainted the car silver (it had been burgundy) and put a new black top on it. He drove it regularly in the summer months, during school, college, and work, and when he moved out west, drove the car to Las Vegas and used it daily there with no issues other than normal, routine maintenance. Three years ago, we gave him a car met him half-way, and the car came back to Michigan, where it's been setting since. He's put roughly 40K miles on it, we replaced the tires just before it came back to Michigan, along with the Cragar SS wheels. The car runs and drives out fine, it's quick and utterly reliable. The paint and interior are showing signs of age, but it's very presentable AS IS. A light cosmetic restoration would make it a VERY nice car, use it AS-IS, or it's the perfect candidate for a Shelby clone, since it's already been hot-rodded with the fuel injected 5.0 and AOD. (In fact, if it doesn't sell, that's exactly what I'll do with it, and we'll keep it until it is re-finished). As I mentioned, the car does show it's age, and gentle, regular use. The steering idler bushing needs to be replaced, and the car has little exhaust leak. It does not have A/C, but the engine has the stock for A/C compressor, so it'd be easy to add if the new owner wants. The drivers door has a couple hours of bodywork and paint needed where our son caught in his garage door jamb backing out and crinkled the edge under the door handle. This he repaired as best he could and used touch up paint, I tried to show this as best I could. I'm not interested in repairing this unless we keep and do our own restoration, it's visible but not horrible, in a way fits the "patina" of the 25 year old car. I've tried to describe it as best I can, highlighting the cars flaws. I wouldn't hesitate to drive it across the country again, and would feel confident it'll continue to be reliable, quick, and attention getting. It's an honest car. I have a modest reserve, and require a $500 pay-pal deposit immediately at the end of the sale. Bank transfer is acceptable, but would prefer the balance in cash when the car is picked up. It's sold AS-IS, no warranty expressed or implied, it's a 45 year old car. Thanks for looking, please call or message with any and all questions, I'll try to answer as quickly as I can, and encourage your personal inspection. We'll be happy to store the car under cover until arrangements to pick-up are made, provided the buyer provides FULL insurance and is as prompt as possible. We are 30 minutes from the Kalamazoo airport, and 45 minutes from Grand Rapids, just 20 miles north of 1-94. Please be aware a winning bid will be considered a BINDING contract to buy, NOT "right of first refusal", I'm serious about selling this, and expect the winning bidder to be serious about owning. I'll be happy to answer your questions by phone as well, at 269-548-7324, and will return calls as quickly as I can. Thanks for looking at our family heirloom, the buyer will not be disappointed with this Classic Mustang.
