Up for bid is a really nice 58,000 original mile 1987 Pontiac Firebird GTA Trans Am purchased new from Chochran Pontiac in Monroeville, PA on December 11, 1986 by a married couple who traded-in their 1984 Buick Century sedan to make the acquisition a reality. The first owners purchased an extended maintenance plan and also took-out a 36-month loan during the initial purchase. The couple owned the GTA for about eight years. The second owner lived in Virginia and had the GTA for the next 12 years and sold it to the third owner from Florida in March 2007. This fabulous GTA is white over medium gray cloth and sports the bigger 5.7 liter 350 tuned port injected motor mated to an automatic 4spd overdrive transmission and 3:27 ratio disc brake rear end. It’s stock with the exception of a Flowmaster stainless-steel performance cat-back exhaust system that was added back in 2010. The brakes are good and the tires have 50 to 70 percent tread remaining. Both headlamp doors open and shut perfectly. The power antenna and rear hatch release work perfectly as well. Despite the vehicle spending the majority of its life in the NE part of the country, it is rust free! The condition of the paint and interior is far better than most GTA’s from this time period. There are no cracks in the rear spoiler. The A/C and blower motor work, but is currently not blowing cool air because it still has original R12 in it from the factory and is low on charge. Because R12 is no longer available was planning to convert the entire system over to R134 in the future in which this Freon is readily available, but never got around to make the conversion. What separates this Firebird GTA from all the others is that it is one of the first GTA’s built with the rare DD9 power paddle side mirrors. According the GTA Source Page it’s estimated that as few as 50 GTA’s and as many as 200 GTA’s had these mirrors installed. Both mirrors function like new and even fold-away manually. This GTA includes the original build sheet from GM, SPI label and original owner purchase records. They make a big difference in eliminating body flex these third gens are known to have in stock form. Recently installed a brand new 5 year battery, both hood struts, both hatch struts and had both headlamp doors rebuilt to like new condition. The flowmaster cat-back system has stainless tips that are mandrel bent 20 degrees downward and look outstanding. It sounds great too. It's not obnoxious sounding, but instead it has a chambered pitch that frequently receives complements.
