Vehicle Detail
This listing is for a 1969 Mercury Cougar 2 door hardtop with a 351-2V engine. I am listing this car for a friend who is the third owner who purchased the car in July of 2012. He purchased it from a lady from Las Cruces, NM, who had owned it for 42 years. She had purchased it in 1970 and drove it regularly for 15 years and then put it into storage. In 1991 she had the car professionally restored and rebuilt, including a complete engine rebuild and new rear air shocks. The exterior was repainted the same maroon color and dual moon roofs and a buckskin landau top replaced the original white painted top. The original interior was changed to maroon cloth with buckskin trim. Over the next 21 years, she drove the Cougar about 10,000 miles, always garaging it and always worrying about someone bumping into it. In early 2012 she had the carburetor rebuilt and installed many new parts including brake pads, master cylinder, water pump, radiator, harmonic balancer, heater core and gas tank. The current owner bought the car in July of 2012 and drove it home 1,300 miles from New Mexico to Illinois. The Cougar ran great for the 1,300 mile trip back to Springfield, Illinois and got lots of “thumbs-up” on the trip. Since his purchase three years ago, he has added new Magnum 500 wheels with Mercury center caps, 215/70R14 BF Goodrich Radial tires, Ignitor II electronic ignition, Flame Thrower coil, RetroSound Classic radio w/ mp3 plug, new antenna, spark plug wires, distributor cap and valve cover gaskets. The air cleaner and valve covers have been repainted. The Cougar has always been garaged and has been driven only about 1,250 miles in the past 3 years. Original Factory Options: FMX Cruise-O-Matic, power steering, power front disc brakes, Whisperaire air conditioning, tinted glass and Sports Special Value Package A, featuring bullet rockers, a left hand racing mirror, striping and turbine wheel covers. In 2006 the second owner has a report produced from the Ford database and if you are interested in any of this information, let me know and I will share it with you.Included with this car are its owner’s manual, the Marti Report, a Chilton's repair manual, a reprinted Ford shop manual and the four original wheels w/ older tires and wheel covers. This car is garaged in Springfield, Illinois and can be seen by appointment if you would like to see it before bidding. If you have any questions you may contact me at this ebay address or call me at 773-746-6363. Remember that payment is to be cash, cashier's check or money order and is to be made at the time of the pick-up of the car. The car is totally drivable and can be driven long distances as the current owner did back 3 years ago. If you wish to transport it, the arrangements must be made by you personally and with my coordination of pick-up time and date. Good luck on your bidding or happy purchase!Note1!! The odometer on this vehicle shows a little less than 6,000 miles. This (of course) would not be the actual mileage since the second owner did drive the car for 15 years before she had the car restored. So the actual mileage is really unknown, the odometer could have been reset or replaced and the mechanical odometers of 1969 would reset to zero at every 100,000 mark.Note 2!! The current owner has inspected the car and has found no rust that he is aware of. This is consistent with the fact that it was a Texas car for the first 43 years of its life.
