Vehicle Detail
0 false 18 pt 18 pt 0 0 false false false This 1973 BMW 2000 Touring was discovered in a barn in Germany in January of 2015. After negotiation with the previous owner it was imported to the United States in April of 2015 as a restoration project for its future owner. This touring shows approximately 40,100 kilometers on the odometer, actual kilometers/mileage is unknown. After three months of reconditioning and over 1000 kilometers on American roads we are ready to sell this vehicle to its next owner. This rare BMW has been recommissioned to running driving condition after 8 years of barn storage. Coolant, engine oil, transmission, brake and rear differential fluid have been changed. Although the body shows a few areas that need rust and paint repair this is a very structurally sound vehicle. The undercarriage, frame rails, rocker panels, nose panel, rear hatch, shock towers, and spare tire well are all free of rust or corrosion. The brake system has been unlocked and renewed since import. The brake pads, lines, and rotors are new and the calipers are freshly rebuilt. While this work was being performed new wheel bearings, strut mounts, H&R springs, and Bilstein sport strut inserts were installed. In addition to the brake and suspension repairs all soft fuel lines have been replaced, a new fuel pump and filter were installed. The car has also been given a basic tuneup which included resetting the timing, installing a new distributor cap, rotor, carburetor cleaning, and spark plugs. A Vintage Autobahn shift knob, boot, and driver side mirror were installed on the car to update the appearance. After all these repairs the car is in running driving condition but in need of further refurbishment to be a reliable daily driver. While this car is on its way to a restoration the buyer should assume that many components will need repair. I would feel comfortable driving it home for a couple hundred miles but beyond that point the buyer should bring a trailer, toolbox or tow-truck. The car is available for inspection in the Portland, Oregon area at any point during the auction, please come and see the car before purchase so that you know exactly what you are buying. I can also make the car available for inspection at an independent BMW mechanic for interested parties. Buyer responsible for all shipping charges and $750 deposit within 24 hours of auction close. I am happy to arrange worldwide transport at buyers expense.
