Vehicle Detail
You are bidding on a 2006 Smart Car that was converted to be fully lithium electric in 2007. I bought it through a Christmas promotion at Sam’s Wholesale Club and took possession in December of 2007. You can read some of the original details about the car by pasting some of the following links into your browser: http://www.marketwired.com/press-release/hybrid-technologies-inc-otcbb-hybt-sams-club-wal-mart-stores-inc-launch-lithium-smart-785725.htm http://www.autoblog.com/2007/10/06/sams-club-to-sell-lithium-ion-electric-car-in-christmas-promoti/ http://www.marketwired.com/press-release/Hybrid-Technologies-Inc-OTCBB-HYBT-Sams-Club-Wal-Mart-Stores-Inc-NYSE-WMT-Launch-Limited-789175.htm This car has been totally fun to drive and to own. Unlike most current electric cars, this one has a range of 100-120 miles and has a top speed of over 70 mph. It has air-conditioning, heat, an AM/FM/CD player in the dash, and a cradle for a satellite radio which I installed. It can be charged by plugging either a 110v or 220v cord into the wall from the car. (The plug on the car is shown in one of the pictures, and the cords are included.) The company which retrofitted the car is now out of business, and that is unfortunately the fate of most electric car companies. As the photos show, it has nearly 40,000 miles on it. It has been awesome not having to buy gasoline – regardless of the price at the pump! The car has given me virtually no problems until the last few months. With about a 70% charge on the lithium batteries (as shown in one of the photos), the on-board charger died. I replaced it with a new Brusa NLG513 unit at a cost of $1,800. But, I’ve been unable to get it to turn “on” and charge the battery. Even with some advice from engineers from the company who built the car, it has proven to be a task that I can’t figure out. On the other hand, someone who likes to tinker, or understands electric cars better than me, should be able to get this going again! This car has a clear DOT title. The VIN is WME4503326J277838, but for some reason the eBay template would not accept this number. The State of Texas had no problem issuing a title to me! Right now the car runs and drives perfectly. When braking or coasting, the motion of the car charges the battery. It could easily be driven 70 or more miles, but once it fully discharges it obviously needs to be charged again. So, I’ve kept is shut off for the last few months while I tried to solve the problem. My inability to get the car going is why I’m selling it. There has never been a problem with the lithium battery system. Other than front brakes, tires and windshield wipers, this car has had no maintenance issues until the old Brusa charger quit on me. You will really enjoy this car if you win the bid! For obvious reasons, I can’t deliver the car to the winning bidder. That person will need to pick up the car in Fort Worth, Texas. Good luck, and contact me with any questions.
