Vehicle Detail

Thanks for looking at the auction for this wonderful car... a recent family decision to 'downsize' spells bad news for me and has forced me to sell our 3rd car. What you see in this auction is the product of a lot of work over almost two year's time. As an Electrical Engineer I wanted a project involving an electric conversion and this was a perfect starting point. I picked the VW because of the availability of OEM parts and conversion ideas coming out of California. So, I searched all over the U.S. for the best Cabriolet I could find for my electric conversion, and finally found this one. The project began in 2009 when I shipped the car to Florida and moved it into my shop. From there the engine was removed along with the fuel tank, exhaust, and a nice layer of grime. All the conversion parts were purchased from different EV parts suppliers, with the bulk from Electro Automotive in California. They were selling a 'kit' at the time (about $13,000) that included the motor, adapter plate for the transmission, DC controller, charger, DC to DC converter, and all the battery boxes. This looked like it would save me a lot of time sourcing these parts individually. Electric Specifics: Pack voltage: 108VDC Batteries: 18 each, U.S. Battery, 6V Motor - NetGain Impulse 9 Controller: Curtis 1231 Charger: PFC 1500 Watt (wired for 120 volt but 220 capable) with 108V algorithm Dc to Dc converter for accessories Potbox Main contactor electric air pump and tank for brakesGauges include: accessory battery voltage, Amps, pack voltage (see photos) full wiring diagrams included Body Specifics: New Carpets, Mats Full car cover New Top New Seat Upholstery New Goodyear high rolling resistance tires BBS wheels reconditioned (no road rash) conversion to 4 wheel disc brakes (original car had drum brakes on rear) change from power steering to manual steering rack As can be seen from the photos, the car is in very nice condition. It never stays outside and has been in a garage always. The body is straight with no indication of any accident repair. There are no dings or dents. The plastic bumpers were re-painted and are in perfect condition. New carpet was obtained from Newton Commercial in England and it looks great. No tears or cracks on the dash. Blaupunkt radio works ok (volume control intermittent) The car is charged by plugging in a standard extension cord into the gas filler - simply remove the gas cap and plug in the cord and the charger will run through its cycle. The top speed is about 65 mph and the range depends on your driving style. I built the car to do short errands during the day and I would estimate I get about 50 miles on a charge. This conversion uses the original VW flywheel and clutch - the transmission is not 'pinned' to a particular gear. You use the clutch and shift just as you would with the gasoline engine. The only difference is that you do not have to keep the clutch pushed in when stopped at a light. Please let me know if you require further information or additional photos. I really want the car to go to a good home, and ideally, a garage! This has been a very rewarding project for me and could provide someone else with a lot of enjoyment. Due to past problems with 0 feedback bidders, please email me if you have less that 5 feedback otherwise I will cancel your bid. Sorry for the inconvenience but this seems to be a big problem for eBay. Payment of $500 due within 3 days of auction end, and the balance within 1 week. I will assist with shipping in any way possible, but the car needs to be picked up within 2 weeks of auction end due to our move.
