Vehicle Detail
1995 Mercedes-Benz E320 Convertible, one of approximately 2,500 cars sold in North America in 1994 and 1995. I have owned this beautiful vehicle for over 6 years; it has always been properly maintained, garaged and used as my Summer vacation vehicle. Despite covering almost 167,000 miles the car drives extremely well and has no significant mechanical issues whatsoever. All maintenance has been performed by a leading independent Mercedes-Benz specialist and several noted weak points of this have been corrected. All maintenance was done using genuine Mercedes-Benz parts or factory-OEM equivalent parts. The main engine wiring harness on these 1994-5 models is known to deteriorate after about 15 years, causing numerous electrical issues. This car had a new improved harness installed in 2009, eliminating these problems. The cooling fan fuse was also updated to 30 Amps, another recommended upgrade. Total cost was $1,678. In 2011, the throttle actuator was found to be worn, causing poor running and idling. A remanufactured unit was installed and at the same time a new all-aluminum radiator was fitted, as the original item was designed with a plastic inlet which eventually cracks. Total cost was around $2,885. With these upgrades and improvements, the car starts instantly and runs exceptionally well. There are no rattles, knocks or shakes; it rides extremely well, even compared with today's models. It does not leak any oil, water or transmission fluid and is ready to drive anywhere with complete confidence. The car is fitted with a matching set of Michelin Pilot tires, which are perhaps 50% worn but good for many more miles. The spare tire looks unused and the original tools, manuals and brochures are included. Inside, the car is in great shape, with slight wear to the driver's seat but none elsewhere. The driver's floor mat has some light staining but the rest of the mats are very good indeed. The trunk floor mat looks almost unused. The headlining is in excellent condition, with no marks, rips or tears. The glass rear window is perfect and the heating element works correctly. The factory radio works correctly and a Mercedes-Benz 6-disc CD changer is fitted in the trunk. The bodywork is completely rust-free and has no dents or dings on any panel. I believe the paint to be completely original and the CarFax report shows an accident-free history. The front bumper has numerous small stone chips and there is a larger chip on the hood, immediately below the Mercedes-Benz badge. The driver's door has some vertical scratches (perhaps caused by a previous owner's pet?) and there is a 3" scratch by the fuel filler inlet. The rear bumper has a very small scrape from a parking lot. The rest of the paintwork is in good shape for a 20-year old vehicle; meaning that it looks very good overall but you can find some fine marks and the odd small chip from normal use. Please look carefully at the pictures for full details. I may be being too critical, as the car regularly gets complimented on its fine condition, but I want to provide as much detail as possible. The convertible top is in perfect working order and in decent condition overall. It has no leaks or tears, but there are a couple of small wear marks towards the rear. Please check the photos for further details. The wheels are good, with just one small 1" curb rash mark on one of them. There is some bubbling of the the silver finish on one wheel. Several items do need need attention at some point:- The driver's side seat belt valet is noisy and probably has a broken tooth on the drive gear. I have a complete replacement mechanism that will be supplied with the car, which can be fitted completely or used to source a replacement drive gear. This is about 2 hours of labor, and an easy job to do yourself if you are reasonably competent and own Metric wrenches. The convertible top has a small leak from the driver's side main hydraulic cylinder. This does not affect the operation of the top at all, but the hydraulic reservoir needs to be topped off every year or two (I've added one liter of fluid in 6 years). These cylinders can be rebuilt by Cabriolet Hydraulics for around $75. Search for them online! I had planned to keep this car indefinitely, but find myself spending more time with my vintage motorcycle collection and really need the garage space. My reserve price is very reasonable and much lower than most offered for sale. The car has a clean Title in my name and is currently tagged and insured, so the mileage may increase slightly if the weather remains good.
