This Miata has been set up with care to match a real driver’s fastest reflexes. It looks like a stealth fighter, handles like a go-kart, and moves out like a scalded cat. The carbon fiber-look vinyl wrap job is neatly done over a solid body, and matched by black-out trim and tinted side windows. The interior has been lavishly redone with Recaro seats, 4-point harnesses, twin roll hoops, custom gauges, detachable racing wheel and other cool touches. There is also fresh weather stripping and a NEW top. Chassis has been superbly tuned with lower & stiffer coil-overs, thicker anti-roll bars, urethane bushings & strut mounts, and bigger better tires (STILL NEW!) on custom wheels. It all pays in spades with amazing responses and cornering ability. The power steering rack is reported to be new, and is tight, light and accurate. Fresh pads & rotors haul it down quickly with a firm, smooth pedal. This car has been substantially rehabbed, we are told by its owner, including a rebuilt engine and transmission in the past year. All of the work was performed a Mercedes-Benz technician. The best part of all is the engine: There’s a lightened flywheel and throttle response is sizzling all the way to 7000 rpm. Clutch is brand new too; it bites smoothly but hangs on like a pitbull, and the shift quality is fast and precise. The wrapped header shows a true gear-head’s attention to detail. Under the hood, it’s easy to appreciate the alloy strut brace, the neat engine damper, new radiator & hoses, and the K&N free-flow air filter and crankcase breather (“million mile warranty”). It all sounds magnificent as it blows out of the sport-tuned exhaust. This definitely pulls harder than any series 1 Miata we’ve ever driven, and it feels unburstable. A Florida original car all its life until 2014, it appears rust free, and was painted white originally (patches of white paint can still be seen in several areas: in the trunk lid, under the hood, etc.) It’s set up as a serious auto-crosser and back-road buzz-bomb, with little regard to comfort or luxury. The heating and ventilation system has apparently been removed for lightness and simplicity. The racing seats are rigidly mounted and will require a wrench for fore-n-aft adjustment. The nose panel is a lightweight custom fiberglass item in place of the heavy factory bumper. The headlights go up and down, but there is only one lamp installed at present. The overall finish is good where it counts, but a little rough around the edges in places. There are also small imperfections in some panels, though they are very well masked by the non-reflective finish (which we think must make it virtually invisible to lidar speed traps!). If you’re looking for a car to impress the “cars-n-coffee” crowd, then this may not be you’re ride, but if you want a solid and uniquely built, reasonably priced little guided missile for weekend rat racing, then this car is guaranteed to raise your pulse!
