Vehicle Detail
Rare find indeed. A 1955 Two door Dodge Suburban wagon. This was the second year for the V8 in a Dodge. 270 cubic inch Red Ram V8, three speed column shifted manual. Still has 6 volt electrical system. I bought this as a "running and driving" project car that had brake issues. My original plan was to install modern brakes and drive it for the summer/fall season to see if I wanted to pursue an engine/tranny swap with a newer Mopar drivetrain. As it turns out the dealer I bought it from never heard it run. It was rumored however that it did run at one point by the owner prior to him. I have inspected the car and the body is in good restorable condition (actually much better than the dozen cars I looked at prior to this one). It has great patina for the current Rat Rod craze. The floors are excellent excluding the left front and right front pans which have been poorly patched. The rockers are both covered by repair metal but I did not remove the repair to see what is beneath. I did peel some of the factory undercoating to inspect. The floors are very clean and mostly still factory painted with factory spot welds visible. I received this "running and driving" vehicle with the transmission and clutch in the cargo area. We did get the transmission to rotate and were able to free up the release sleeve. The engine turns freely. I did remove the fuel tank for cleaning. The sending unit is rotted but tank seems to be salvageable. I was going to attempt to get it running but found the oil drain plug has been welded to the oil pan. The radiator is intact but it is full of seeds and straw from mice taking residence in it. On the positive side it is cool as hell to look at. The engine bay measures large enough to support a small block or big block V8 (including Gen-III Hemi). I have a factory reprint service manual, both front floor pans, two new rockers and an automatic shifter to include with the sale. On the negative side the transmission and driveshaft are in the trunk, the LF door doesn't latch, the interior is rough but seems mostly complete, the y-pipe is cut (for no apparent reason), the brakes are inoperative and I cannot guarantee that the engine will run. I will however provide brutally honest answers to any questions, take photos of any areas in question or even perform a compression test. I strongly advise getting a shipping quote before bidding to avoid surprises. This car is considered "inoperable" to shippers. I will require a $500 non-refundable deposit within 2 days of auction ending with balance due at pick up or within 14 days, whichever comes first. I also have a car trailer and may be able to deliver to the New England area for a reasonable fee. Photos in this listing are from the dealer lot in Minnesota. I do not have any other classic cars for sale. I listed the odometer reading as it is required to list here, I cannot verify the accuracy though. The upper windshield moulding vanished in transit to Rhode Island where the car currently resides awaiting its fate. Chip Foose, where are you?
