Styling & Options: First things first, I don’t think you will ever see another Avalon Blue Discovery 1 this pristine. Avalon Blue? Wasn’t that a 94/95 Range Rover Classic Color? Yes. And offered in limited availability on 96 Discovery 1’s, too! If you’ve scanned ahead to the pictures – I don’t blame you – this truck is an absolute head turner everywhere it goes. I shot it just as the sun was coming up at my favorite location in order to highlight how spectacular this color is. In low light and shade it is a rich, deep blue. In brilliant direct sun the color comes alive and is almost a pearled battleship grey. The paint is exceptionally smooth to the touch and is not oxidized anywhere. I have a few of the same pictures back to back, with just the most subtle shift in light… and look at how the color changes. As I’m sure you can tell, I’m pretty passionate about the color of this truck. It ABSOLUTELY defines this particular vehicle for me. Driving it with this color is a unique experience. Unlike Epsom or Willow green, Java Black, Alpine or Chawton White, Rioja or Tracadero Red, and even Oxford blue… Avalon Blue, true to its mythic fable origins VANISHES from sight while driving. I can’t explain it. Its near atmospheric camaflouge and makes me feel like the brilliantly lit cabin is floating along. You will see what I mean when you have your first ride in it! This is a no-bull, eat off the floor interior. It looks, feels, and even smells factory fresh. Pay close attention to the center console parcel pad area. No Frito’s crumbs and Coke-a-Cola mortar of yester-year to be found… ANYWHERE. The interior plastics and mouldings are in excellent shape with minimal wear and/or markings. A testament to their order are the forward seat base surround mouldings. These are almost always destroyed. They are excellent in this example. Owner’s manual, jack/tools/roof rack x-members all included and stowed away in their proper in-vehicle compartments. The Bajamma Beige leather seats exhibit virtually no where at all and are exceptionally smooth to the touch. All 7 seats are clean, stitching intact and all work/fold/store perfectly. Finally, all seams, jambs, seals, bulkheads, pans, joints, gutters are immaculate and tight. Have a close look at the featured picture of the B-Pillar lower jamb. This body scan tag is still perfect, straight from the factory. The hinges are bristling clean. ALL OF THEM are like that… Performance & Operation: She is Swiss-Watch whisper quiet at even an arm’s length away from the vehicle. It fires up immediately and has tons of power all the way! It idles perfect and has ZERO hesitation, tics, stumbles, or rattles of any kind. The shift quality is excellent and because of the low mileage, this truck still retains that velvety smooth rubber mounted drive-train feeling. It may go without saying, but all windows, auto door locks, lights, wipers, multi-functions, HVAC controls, work as they should. The AC and HEAT are both excellent and quiet. There are no warning lights on the dash and has excellent braking, handling and ride performance. She does not leak! Steering and suspension is responsive and plush. She charges onto the freeways with total confidence and has no shimmies, shakes or meanderings of any kind. She is rock solid in town or on the motorways and the cabin is delightfully quiet as there are no panel or plastic rattles at all. On that note, there are no clunks or bumps from the underside of the truck either. Perhaps lastly, the factory audio system is still present and works perfectly. The speakers still offer concert-like quality sound, at any speed, windows up or down. Purchasing, Perspective & Why Buy From Me: No one puts a Land Rover together better than me, PERIOD. It’s the vehicle I drive, and the vehicle I RACE. Nearly two decades of Rover ownership and service are poured into every Rover that I see into new hands. All too common are sales from the brokerage houses where a vehicle will receive a detail service and nothing else. Leaving maintenance work for the pleasure of the new owner; often time’s immediately following reception of the vehicle. Beware of any vintage Rover that does not share the same service points as the ones I advertise with my trucks. They are ESSENTIAL for long term reliability and any Classic without these services are ticking time bombs. I am not a Land Rover tech that drives home in a Honda Civic. I come from a long line of British Car technicians and Live, Breathe and even RACE the green oval.
