Vehicle Detail
For sale, 1972 Chevy Custom/10 4x4 survivor truck. I acquired this truck from the original owner, who paid $4,386 in Nov 1971 right here in the Montana high desert, land of the sagebrush and prickly pear cactus. It's an honest, good running truck and was in use as a wood hauler and weekend truck, and it's wearing some great patina. Runs and drives and stops well, use as is or restore this desirable dry western truck in a great color. If you're tired of the same old fluffed up, lipstick-on-a-pig Ebay fare, give this truck a look. Exterior: Paint is faded and unless you're into patina, acceptable for a driver only. Appears to be original. Needs complete repaint if you want it nice. Truck has dents but very little rust, especially for a 67-72 C10/K10. No rot underneath, only minor rust in floors with some amateur repairs made by owner. Will add underside pics shortly, both inner and outer rockers, cab mounts and cab drop-offs look great. We just don't see major rust or rot issues in this arid country- there's just no moisture. We only get 10 inches of total precipitation annually, and no salt is used on the roads. Minor rust in driver door and cab corner as shown. Box strips rusted from where particle board was left in bed and held moisture. Glass is good, windshield has a small crack and a few scratches. Bumpers both bent. Overall a solid truck and very good basis for restoration. Interior: Presentable for a driver or working truck. Seat has been recovered, and isn't worn out or broken down. Dash hasn't been cut and still has original radio(no antenna, so non-op). Door panels not broken but needs driver armrest. Original floor mat has been removed, and has aftermarket steering wheel. Just about everything seems to work except radio. Heater, wipers, and all lights work and turn signal switch is good, but headlights only work on high beam (dimmer switch). Needs a new rubber gas pedal, but they are $6 on the web. Use as is, and restore later if you want it nice. Mechanical: Starts, runs, drives and stops well. Truck was in use right up to current time and was an occasional driver for dump runs and firewood trips. Original owner states new Targetmaster crate engine installed at 100k miles, no documentation. He had a bit stouter cam installed, and it has a lumpy idle. 4x4 works fine. Motor sounds good and pulls strong, no leaks in my garage when truck was parked overnight. About the only possible issue I can see is that truck doesn't want to downshift into 2nd gear till 10mph or slower - might be a slightly worn synchro (or just the way these were). Not a problem at all since with 3.73 gear it will easily lug down in 3rd to a crawl. Truck is tight with few squeaks or rattles. Oil pressure is good, no noticeable smoke or noise. I've put a some miles on and from what I can tell it's ready to use and enjoy with a set of new tires - 31 x 10.50 tires are shot and need to be replaced. Wheels are in good condition with no pitting and good rings and caps. Truck has travel tanks but they were drained years ago and haven't been used. Hardware is all there, but running off the main gas tank only. Pricing/Misc: I got a good deal on this rig and you will too. NO RESERVE, and the truck will sell. This era 72 K10 is tough to find, especially in the best factory color of that year (dark blue), These trucks book a ton, but starting bid is what the truck is worth in parts alone.Transport is readily available and probably cheaper than fixing rust on a Midwest or East Coast truck. Title is clear and in my name. GOOD LUCK! Keep in mind that with all cars and trucks, THEY LOOK BETTER IN PICTURES THAN IN PERSON. Don't bid expecting a creampuff, this truck is a great candidate for restoration, but not a minty creampuff by any means. It's an honest, solid truck and what you see is what you get. It wouldn't be practical to expect to fly in and drive it home. THANKS On Oct-28-14 at 18:33:38 PDT, seller added the following information: Here's the link to underside pics, nothing hidden with spray paint or undercoating, what you see is what you get. As mentioned, rust is minimal for one of these 67-72 trucks. Did a walk around with a buyer on the phone today and also noticed tailgate is bowed when you look from the top down toward the bed.
