Vehicle Detail

This is most likely one of the very best 78 308 GTS's in existence, I could write a book about the restoration of this car. To summarize: New Everything, from the small rubber bushing stoppers of the pop up lights to the suspension. Rebuilt engine with JE pistons and therefore modern piston ring system, stainless valves, all new gaskets / seals, precision machined timing belt pulleys (originals are plastic which wear out and jump a tooth easily), new high torque starter motor and new fly wheel, new alternator, triple ceramic coated exhaust system inside and out, asbestos insulation removed, replaced with modern alt. XDI ignition which is essential in making the engine run properly without sputter etc. Scuderia Rampante rebuilt water pump and water hoses. All bolts etc. re- plated, Coolant container plated inside and out, all alu tubes anodized, new engine mounts, new AC compressor, new AC lines including the ones inside the rocker panel, waterlines also new, new dryer, new/larger cooling fans. Rebuilt transmission, new clutch and cable, rebuilt brake booster and master cylinder, rebuilt brake system (all original re-plated). New oil cooler hoses (custom made), radiators flushed. New foam around the radiator which is necessary to keep the water temperature steady (mostly always missing, therefore rendering the fans partially useless as the air just blows past the radiator)Hyper Flow high performance catalytic converters. New Interior including new vinyl on dash, new carpets and leather, bookshelf cover, new hood and trunk release pulleys, new, machined out of metal (not plastic, as the orginal is) heater choke lever mounts etc., new window motors and cables, new wiring harness. New air vents by the windshield (old ones are always cracked)New superformance 16inch wheels and tires. (Original wheels included) The latches for the removeable roof are new.The metal frames for the headlights are powder coated and all the mechanisms are completely redone. I could keep going but it would hardly portray the enormous amount of time and patience that went into this project. Needless to say these cars weren't designed to be fixed easily. Everything is connected and replacing or fixing one thing opens up a ton of other issues. That's why no matter how shiny one of those cars is or even how few miles they may claim to have, the underlying mechanical truth most likely is still a disaster. This car starts even if you don't drive it for 6 months, the battery doesn't go dead for no good reason. It may also have something to do with the new and improved fuse boxes. All relays are also new (except the hazard relay, the original worked but is not working currently) This car runs without a sputter and shifts like new. The weber carburetors were rebuilt. The water temperature stays exactly where it is supposed to be and the crossover hoses between the fuel tanks are new and original Ferrari hoses (not some alternatives some people offer in their "complete fuel hose replacement kits") and the filler hose and the Fuel pump are new.Paint is new of course, chassis and body, it was completely soda blasted and stripped to metal. I want to add at this point that the Column switches unit has also been replaced with a new one, a necessity on any 308. The cars with the original column switches are just miles away from breaking usually. This car is a extremely rare example of a completely restored 308 GTS, I know from personal experience that it is not financially smart to restore a 308 and that to find pristine one requires finding somebody who invested years of their time. The 308 is considered an investment car by now, the potential next big mover in the Ferrari world. They built more of the 308's than of their other cars but by now only a handful of pristine examples are left. As one of the most recognizeable Ferraris and one of the best looking cars ever made, this model has great investment potential. The car is still in the break in phase, the engine hasn't been pushed over 4000 RPM. This offer also includes parts!! We needed to replace the rear window rubber seal but quickly learned that they are no longer available. The price of one of the 3 last originals in the world was about 400US$ which seemed rather high for a strip of rubber ( of course most of the part prices were astronomical) We ended up custom making a production run of the Rubber seal. A total of 500 pieces were made. We have been the supplier of the 308 Rear window rubber seals ever since and have been shipping them all over the planet with excellent feedback regarding the quality of the part and the perfect fit. We have been selling them for about 85$ to Retail and somewhat less for wholesale customers. We have about 450 pieces left in stock and we will include that stock with the car. If you figure an average of 60$ per piece, that would add up to a US $27000.- value. Of course you could also sell them for more and possible increase that number.
