Vehicle Detail

This is our prize 1981 Plymouth TC3 Hatchback in the original Pearl White. It has 72,873 original miles on it, a 2.2 engine, factory sunroof, factory spoiler, and automatic transmission. It has been garaged and well maintained since we bought it new in April, 1981. The cranberry red interior is clean - some wear in the left front, but the rest is nice. The whitewall tires are priceless, and the car runs like a top. However, the salty roads of upstate NY did what salty roads do - rust the underside. We refinished minor body rust twelve years ago, and that looks fine, but the underside has rusted, completely through in a few spots. I would, if I were younger, get some sheet metal and fix it in a week so this beauty would run for another 33 years. For the last twenty years, we drove the car frequently for fun and for shopping, since this hatchback can carry an incredible amount of bags and packages. It never failed to turn heads and invite admiring comments wherever we parked it. We stopped driving it a few months ago because of the rusted holes, plus it needs a wheel bearing and maybe a rear spring. The 1981 2.2 engines had a carburetor problem, but that was addressed and fixed decades ago. The only accident the car has seen was a mall dent in the left fender, and that was professionally repaired. This car is a classic, and it's too good to be relegated to the parts bin, and someone out there could easily restore it and give it a second life. There are very, very few of these hatchbacks left, and virtually none that look and drive like this. We have all the original sales materials, owner's manual, and detailed records on everything that has ever been done to the car. If there are no reasonable bids on the car, I will take some vitamins, rent a lift, and fix the rust myself.
