Vehicle Detail
Let me get this part out of the way first. I have collected and restored car's all my life as a passion and hobby. They have been mostly BMW. THIS IS A GREAT HOBBY THAT HAS MANY REWARDS AS YOU GROW OLDER, As long as you stay healthy. My health now, does not allow me to continue in this direction. This car was to be the culmination of my hobby and skills developed over 60 years. This car will need a total restoration. To my knowledge everything is there to make this complete. It is a 1967 BMW 2000cs, Vin number 1101159, Chamonix with a blue interior. Mileage, 80,126. Build date was 5/28/66 delivered to Hoffman Motors, NY,NY on 6/8/66. My research shows it was always listed as a California car. It was shipped from San Diego to Buffalo 3 years ago. When we got it, it started, moved and stopped. I got sick and nothing else was done to it. It has been inside on blocks since then. One thing that I learned in restoring a car , being from the Rust belt North East, is to start with the best car you can get for obvious rust reasons. This was the best I could find after looking for many years. California cars are excellent to restore. For its age, it has rust , but, nothing that can not be restored. The following is a description of this car to the best of my ability. Overall this car needs a total restoration. It is all there except for minor items that are available on line. The paint has been redone and shows its age. The chrome is in very good condition. the headlights, taillights all worked. Some reflectors and lens will need replacement. The radio has been removed. The beltline trim has some rust where the clips rubbed the paint. There is one perforation on the front passenger quarter. There is a small dent on the front, driver side quarter at the belt line. The trim is restorable and the dent can easily be popped out. The front quarters will need repair. The driver door card was removed by the previous owner. Looks like they were trying to repair the power window, The card is in the trunk . This door does not close properly and will need adjustment. All the glass is in very good condition except for the windshield that has a crack on the passenger side. The major repair will have to be made when the windshield is replaced as areas in the surround area will need to be repaired. This is the worst part of the car but, again, can be repaired. The wheels are the turbine models that replace the normal steel wheels that came with the car. These are in very good condition and enhance the look of this car. The hood has some very minor perforations and will need adjustment for ease of operation. The interior is all there but will need replacement. The interior wood will need to be redone. The trunk seems very good with a small repair needed to the bottom of the spare tire holder. The floors are solid as far as I can see. The tempramental pair of Solex 40mm dual choke side draft carbs have been replaced with the bigger and much more reliable 45DCOE twin Weber's by the P.O. Shipping is at your expense. I can help expedite it for you at this end This is a milestone car for BMW and is very rare. It is the start of the Coupes for them and will only increase in value. It was based on the chassis and running gear of the 1600/1800 sedans with entirely new bodywork. These cars were responsibly for saving BMW form world wide bankruptcy. Car and Diver in the April 1966 road test issue writes, "The BMW 2000cs packs more luxury, comfort, and over-the-road performance into a taunt, sophisticated, beautifully built package than anything else available within its price range. It takes aim at several well established Grand Touring cars that don't have nearly as much to offer. The competition is tough, but the BMW comes on strong, and we predict it will score a bulls-eye".
