Vehicle Detail
For sale, 73 F250 High Boy 4x4 right off the ranch TO BE SOLD WITH NO RESERVE. I acquired this truck from an estate. Sold new right here in the Montana high desert, land of the sagebrush and prickly pear cactus. It's an honest truck and was in use as a wood hauler and hunting vehicle for many years and prior to that it was a ranch truck. Runs and drives and stops, with a little work could use as is or restore this desirable dry western truck in the best color (red). Odometer shows 70k but most likely turned over. Exterior: Paint is faded and unless you're into patina, acceptable for a driver only. Needs complete repaint if you want it nice. Truck has a few dents but little rust, shown in pics. No rot underneath, and I know where to look. Will add full underside pics shortly. Cab mounts, cab corners, cab drop-offs, floors, all dry. We don't just don't see major rust or rot issues in this arid country- there's just no moisture. We only get 10 inches of total precipitation annually, and no salt is used on the roads. Minor rust at spots were mud packs in and holds moisture, rear lower box corners, bottom of one front fender, and some on tailgate. Surface rust in box from where cardboard was left in truck and held moisture. One rust thru spot there in box that has a small hole (shown), but should be an easy fix or just Rhinoline it. Passenger fender has a dent and passenger door appears to have been repaired before with cracked bondo as shown. Glass is good, windshield has a couple of very small chips. Lower chrome body mouldings on one side are missing as shown. There's a hole in the cab where a spot light was mounted. Overall a solid truck and very good basis for restoration. Interior: Original and presentable for a driver or working truck. Seat has a few tears on driver side underneath cover, but isn't worn out or broken down. Dash hasn't been cut and still has original radio. Door panels not broken but have had holes drilled and small screws added. Original dashpad has a crack as shown. Headliner is good. Just about everything seems to work except radio and fuel guage. Use as is, and restore later if you want it nice. Mechanical: Starts, runs, drives and stops but does have a few issues. I took the truck to a professional mechanic and had it checked over. Truck was upgraded to a 1973 460 motor, and it sounds good and pulls strong but has a soft plug seeping coolant on passenger side, and it's the one under motor mount. Mechanic didn't do full tuneup or compression check, but there is a low speed miss and mechanic thinks it may be a burnt exhaust valve. I had a new water pump put on and both fuel tanks drained and flushed, just the main tank is currently connected. Fuel gauge is non-op. Truck is tight with few squeaks or rattles. Oil pressure is good, no noticeable smoke or noise. 4x4 works fine but front end spider gears have play and will need work. Power steering leaks, front diff leaks at cover seal. Not a pampered cream puff by any means, but I've put a some miles on and from what I can tell it could be ready to use and enjoy with a soft plug, some new tires and a few other things. 33x12.50x16.5 tires are shot and need to be replaced. Wheels are in good condition with no pitting. I didn't drive it over 60mph due to the tires. IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN A SET OF ORIGINAL WHEELS AND TIRES, I have a full set of factory split rims with 7.50 x 16 bias traction tires that I could include for an additional $100. Pricing/Misc: I got a good deal on this rig and you will too. NO RESERVE, and the truck will sell. This era F250 is very hard to find, especially in the best factory color of that year (red), These trucks book a ton, but this truck needs some work and is being sold as a restoration candidate. Transport is readily available and probably cheaper than fixing rust on a Midwest or East Coast truck. Title is clear and in my name. GOOD LUCK! Keep in mind that with all cars and trucks, THEY LOOK BETTER IN PICTURES THAN IN PERSON. Don't bid expecting a creampuff, this truck is a great candidate for restoration, but not mint by any means. It has issues and it wouldn't be practical to expect to drive it home. THANK YOU************** On Sep-23-14 at 18:41:11 PDT, seller added the following information: ***Update to add underside pics showing cab mounts, floorpans, cab drop-offs etc all I good condition. I did find a very small spot of rust on back of driver side cab between box and cab, shown in pics. Also, the turn signal cancelling cam doesn't shut off turn signal, it's broken. Forgot to mention that the ignition doesn't match the door locks, I have matching door locks to ignition in the glovebox. I don't have key to current door locks, just need to swap out to the ones in the glovebox.
