Vehicle Detail
You are looking at my 1972 Maverick, equipped with a 250 CI 6 cylinder with an automatic transmission. The car does run, but a serious buyer would likely want to consider this to restore. The body is fairly straight, although you can see in the pictures there is a small amount of surface rust in a few small spots. There is some heavier rust in the trunk as well, but it's my understanding that is pretty typical on a vehicle considered an antique, and usually a new plate is installed. The previous owner installed an aftermarket gas tank located in the trunk, the hood scoops, as well as an Auto-meter Tachometer and CD player for the interior. Initially I had planned on removing these items for a complete restoration, but a recent grandchild (my 1st) has shown me I don't really have the time for a project like this one. The car is very nearly complete, the old AC compressor and the splash guards are in the trunk, and I think just about everything original is there. I know the interior is missing an armrest, a dome light cover, and a steering horn button, but that's all I can think of. The interior is surprisingly nice for it's age. The car odometer says 37K. I assume that to mean 137K, but the title says exempt, so I am not sure what the actual mileage is. I have sold a few cars over the years on E-bay, but never one like this, so I would encourage to please ask me any questions you might have and I will answer them as soon as I have an answer. If you are interested in purchasing this car to drive, and not restore, you could absolutely do that, but a few things the car will need; #1: Either a carb rebuild, or a new carburetor. It will occasionally stall at a red light. (Full-tune-up would be even better) #2: The car has a noticeable (not dangerous) shake between 40-50 MPH. I assume all the tires need re-balanced, but it could be a bad driveshaft. ($150) #3: The tranny leaks about a quart a month if it sits. A tranny flush and a new pan gasket would be needed. #4: The AC needs rewired. It has a brand new compressor installed, and is full, but needs the wiring to the internal switch connected. This is surprisingly an AC equipped car. With those repairs, this would be a great driving car. I actually drove the car about 50 miles a few weeks ago at speeds up to 60 MPH, and I loved the old school car rumble and feel. If you have any questions, again, please feel free to ask. Glad to answer any question. I have decided to have a no reserve auction with a very low starting price to get the ball rolling. I have been on E-Bay for about 15 years, and take a lot of pride in the fact that I have never gotten a negative either buying, or selling. I can't stress enough how important questions before the bidding ends is. Winning the auction, then calling me to ask how the car runs is not really how E-Bay is supposed to work. PLEASE get your questions in BEFORE bidding. I am selling locally, and reserve the right to end the auction early. As for payment, I require a $100 deposit within 24 hours through PayPal. The balance is due within 7 days via cashiers check/cash. I will consider other arrangements with you if your situation warrants it, but it needs to be a good reason. (Example; if you're driving to pick it up in person in 10 days and want to pay in cash) The car needs to be gone within 20 days of auctions end. I currently have it garaged, and will leave it there until that time. I am not familiar with shipping a car, but if you would like to do that, it is certainly up to you if you choose to pay for that, and I'll be more than happy to assist if I can. Having said that, getting this car within the timeframe I've offered is up to the winning bidder. Thanks for checking out my Maverick! Did I mention I encourage you to ask me questions before bidding? MikeOn Sep-22-14 at 14:15:00 PDT, seller added the following information: Someone sent me an email asking me to check for bondo and also what shape the bumpers are in. I do not detect any bondo on the car using the old "knock" test, and I found that both bumpers are aftermarket fiberglass. The heater/AC fan work, and there are no holes in the floorboards. (I know there is rust on the trunk) Also was asked about the glass and windows, all the glass is beautiful, with no cracks or fading, and all windows roll up and down fine with the exception of the rear driver only goes down about 2/3rds of the way and starts binding on something. Rolls back up fine. If anyone has any more questions, please keep sending them in. (If you could, don't include personal info with the question, as I don't want to post any of anyone's personal info on this page, which is why I didn't add them here)
