Vehicle Detail

1971 Suzuki T500 Titan in original, unrestored condition. Runs and rides extremely well. Please note: Alabama does not issue Titles for pre-1975 bikes. However, eBay does not offer this as an option. This bike will be sold with a current AL Vintage Motorcycle Registration document (with tag) in my name, plus a Bill of Sale, which may be notarized if required. Therefore, there is NO actual Title. NO TITLE! Most States will accept this situation, some may not. Please check carefully and satisfy yourself that you can register the bike with the documents offered before bidding. This Suzuki T500 Titan is a very nice, unrestored bike that starts easily and is in excellent working order. Finished in the 1971-only Candy Lavender and White color combination, the paint is in nice unrestored condition and polishes up nicely. The paint on the top of the tank are wearing a little thin in places but there's no rust or significant damage, just a few scratches from over 40 year's gentle use. Please look careful at the photographs for details. The chrome appears to be all original; both wheel rims are excellent as are the spokes and show no rust or damage. New tires and tubes were fitted earlier this Summer. The front forks were serviced, with new fork fork boots and oil. The chrome lowers are excellent; the fork ears are fair with some thinning chrome in places. The original headlamp has good chrome and works perfectly. Mechanically, this bike is in very good condition and starts easily from hot or cold with one or two kicks. The carburetors were recently stripped, dipped and ultrasonically cleaned before reassembly with new gaskets, jets and floats. The correct air filter housing is fitted and the carb boots are in great shape, soft and pliable. As a result, the bike runs extremely well and pulls strongly on the open road. Beware of bikes that 'ran when parked' or 'no doubt ran strongly at some point', as these motors can and do corrode internally from standing and the crankshaft seals can fail, requiring expensive repairs. This bike suffers from none of those issues. The exhaust system is is in exceptional condition for its age; excellent, shiny chrome that's free of significant scratches or damage and with none of the usual battery acid stains on the left muffler. Both mufflers are clean and sound with great chrome; both have the original factory baffles installed. The original oil injection system is in excellent working order and the bike doesn't leak oil or smoke excessively. The frame is in similarly great condition; excellent, shiny paint with very little wear and tear or rust. The original seat is present, undamaged with a soft, pliable original cover. The chrome on the passenger grab rail is wearing thin in spots - please see pictures for details. Both fenders are the correct original items, with good chrome and free from damage or corrosion. Turn signals work perfectly, as do both high and low headlamp beams, the stop light and all instrument / warning lights. No horn is currently fitted. A new sealed 12V battery was installed earlier this year and does not lose it's charge when the bike is unused for a month or two. The original handlebars have good chrome and both the original 'S' marked mirror are still fitted, as are the original gray cables, still marked with a '500' part number that indicates they are Suzuki original items. The tachometer works perfectly but the speedometer reads too low - sometimes way to low, other times not so bad. It seems to be worse the more it's ridden and I believe the unit needs overhauling. Handlebar switches are excellent, original items and work correctly and the front brake and clutch levers are the correct, undamaged items. Reserve Price: the reserve will not be disclosed, in fairness to all bidders. It is set at a very reasonable level, in my opinion. Once the reserve has been reached, the auction will run to the end. Prior to the reserve being met, I reserve the right to end the auction or accept any Buy-it-Now offer at my discretion. Delivery Options: it is the purchaser's responsibility to get shipping quotations and make all necessary arrangements. Please use my domestic address ZIP 36607 for estimating costs. I will normally be available to help with loading, given reasonable notice and subject to my work schedule. The bike will be fully insured and carefully stored until handed over to the shipper. The bike must be picked up within 30 days of the auction end, unless you have contacted me beforehand to make alternative arrangements. After 30 days, it will be considered an Abandoned Purchase and alternative arrangements made. I will make every effort to help you - please allow a reasonable time for me to reply. If you are planning to export the bike, I may be able to deliver to a local shipper for a small additional cost, but cannot offer crating or export documentation services. Free Delivery to Barber Vintage Festival! I will be attending the Barber Vintage Festival on 10th and 11th October and offer free delivery and collection at this event. The bike must be fully paid for within 7 days of the auction close and you must be able to collect the bike in person from the Swap Meet area no later than noon on Saturday 11th October. Questions? Please let me know if you have any questions or would like any additional information or photographs. I will do my best to respond quickly, but please do not wait until 30 minutes before auction end to ask…! Thank you and good luck with your bidding! On Sep-14-14 at 19:37:19 PDT, seller added the following information: Additional information: The original vacuum-operated petcock was cleaned and rebuilt; it works correctly and will be supplied with the bike. I prefer to be able to fully turn off the fuel supply, so that I can run the carbs dry if I'm not using the bike for a few weeks. Therefore I have installed a replacement ethanol-resistant petcock with manual positions for Off, Run and Reserve. It fits onto the original threaded outlet on the tank and is completely interchangeable with the original one. All fuel lines are new, ethanol-resistant replacements, although I use ethanol-free fuel virtually all the time. I have a short video of the bike starting and running; please send me your email address if you need a copy and I'll forward it to you.
