Vehicle Detail
This is a two owner 29500 mile car that I purchased last year in CA and shipped home in Massachusetts. I am a Dealer and have a car collection and wanted a very nice 280SE to restore and own for a long time. I chose this one because it has had the same owner since 1983 and is the real deal in terms of California condition. I planned on painting it, restoring the wood dash and replacing the leather on the seats to truly make it a gem. The car had not been driven in a few years so I first focused on mechanicals and spent over $1000 on a full tune up using Mercedes parts. The linkage was stuck in the heater core so it was stuck on cool because I'm sure they never used the heat in CA. I ended up spending well over $3000 on a new heater core and other things while the dash was apart but now the heat and AC work great. While the dash was a part I spent $950 having all the wood stripped and refinished and it came out great. Unfortunately while it was at the shop getting it's heater core i got the bad news that reverse had disappeared. Off to the tranny shop for another $3666. While it was at the tranny shop I got a call from a Dealer friend and ended up buying a fully restored 280SEL that is an absolute Diamond for $30k. The car shows well and drives great but to look it's best could use fresh paint. It buffs up very nice but after a month the roof starts to show oxidation again. There is one spot on the trunk where the paint lifted because something was left on the paint that compromised it. I included a picture of it where there is a chip about the size of a thumb nail.. (they all seem to be like this unless the paint is fresh) There are a couple of tears on the front seats too. I would say that with a $3-4k investment in paint and interior work she will be one of the nicest of her kind. Jay Goodwin508-725-4778
