Vehicle Detail

Vehicle Description 1988 Porsche 911 Carrera 2dr Cabriolet 6-cylinder 3.2L/3165cc/214hp Bosch Motronic FI WP0EB0912JS171723 Second owner - impeccable condition Very rare '88 3.2 Carrera Cabriolet with the Turbo-Look option. Only offered for two years in the cabriolet body. Turbo-Look gives you a full 911 Turbo package, but with the normally aspirated engine and (importantly) the G-50, five speed gearbox (turbo motored cars only had a four speed). Turbo-Look package includes: the wide body with gorgeous flared fenders on all four wheels, stupendous turbo brakes (modeled on those in the racing 917), turbo wheels and suspension....essentially a turbo car except for the engine and transmission. This car also had the whale tail deleted by the factory at the buyer’s request. I am technically the third owner. I arranged the purchase of the car through the Porsche Center in San Antonio after the original owner traded it in on a new Turbo S. The car was shipped to me in a covered trailer on March 18, 2005 with 73,339 miles on it. I have all the shipping paperwork. Original and unmolested, this car, at approximately ~89,000 miles, is well under the 150,000 normally expected at this age. Never a garage or trailer queen, this great machine has been only street driven (never on a track; never raced). Guards Red with a black interior and top; all paint is all original (other than minor chip touch up), with a patina that fits its age, the paint is not concours perfect, but close; no body work; minor chips in paint and windshield; Air conditioning works but the seals let it leak down by the end of the year, (normal for that genre), standard leather seating. Power windows, seats (standard), and brakes; optional six speaker sound system with optional 'Reno' Blaupunkt AM/FM cassette; optional foot well mats front and rear; fronts with Carrera embroidered in red; optional steering wheel raised hub; limited slip differential. ALL original equipment and paperwork including: all manuals, delivery paperwork, unmolested and complete toolkit, emergency light, first aid kit (required in cars used in Germany), convertible top cover and its storage bag. Tires: Bridgestone Potenza S-03 Pole Position on the front, (only ~13,000 on fronts), Continental Contisportcontact on the rear, (only ~6,000 on rears); all are state-of-the-art ZR rated tires in original factory delivered sizes. Convertible top and rear window appear almost new, (approximately eleven years old) and done with factory spec materials and by experienced craftsmen used by the Porsche dealer in San Antonio TX. The car spent most of its time in California before the original owner moved to South Texas. While in Knoxville, TN the car is kept under a cover in its own section of the insulated garage. The car has never been in snow and has been in the rain < 10 times. There is no corrosion or rust anywhere on the car. Lojack security equipped. This 911 gets superb fuel mileage, low 20s in the city, as high as 30 highway; combined with a huge 22.5 gallon tank, gives 400-600 miles between fill-ups. All major mechanicals are superb; largely factory authorized service including major service at 60,000 (San Antonio Porsche Center); some work at Porsche specialists; I have most service records and receipts. I use fully synthetic 5W-20 racing oil with zinc and phosphorus anti-wear additives to provide protection against scuffing and wear. Historically, a low maintenance car; easy to keep. Now for the known issues: One headlight and the soft-top are not original. There are a few small chips in the paint. Two problems that are not uncommon to these cars at 80,000 miles: A plastic gear in the odometer/speedometer broke. It was repaired at 81,854. A bushing in the steering column wore out. I had the bushing replaced at 81,070. The clock quit recently and is being repaired now. I have a junior in college and am paying for tags/registration/insurance on 5 vehicles. So I must, regrettably, sell this companion of nearly 10 years. An unbelievably rare find for a knowledgeable and discerning buyer. Please see http://www.hagerty.com/valuationtools for the pricing trends for these fine machines. I will sell in the United States only. If your feedback score is less than 10 or your feedback profile is not 100%, please contact me before bidding. I reserve the right to end the auction at any for any reason. The car is for sale locally. Buyer to pay all shipping costs; cashiers check or money order; contact me for payment details. A CARFAX Vehicle History Report is available. WP0EB0912JS171723 Shipping and payment details: Services available. Buyer responsible for vehicle pick-up or shipping. Seller's payment instructions: Please contact me for details. If, so could you send a photo or list the numbers? Do you know how much oil is used between changes, or how often does it need added? Have you ever had a compression and/or leak down test? Thanks. - rw229Dear rw229, The silver sticker is on the hood, under it. I have only driven the car about 6,000 miles in 9 1/2 years so I have never had to add any oil. I does have a drip but I keep a small white pad under it so I can see how much, (drops per month). I change the oil and filter every year now that I keep synthetic in it. I never have had to add any oil between changes. I do get some blueish exhaust when I start it after it has been sitting for a month or so. It is from ring bypass I am told. I have not had a leak down test performed. It starts instantly, runs smoothly and is fast enough for me. I could have an expert do a leak test if need be. If I can help any more just ask away.
